VALEDICTORY. i
To Tue ReADERS oF THE BaNNER:
With this issue my connection
with the editorial staff of the Ban-
NER closes. Mr. Jas. R. Griffithi
having purchased the BANNER,
and desiring myself to
engage in another occupation, he
will, with this issue, enter upon
the editorial management of the
same. We have but a few words‘i
to say before we make our retiring
bow, 1
First we will say that our asso
ciation with Mr. Thos. W. Griflithl
has been pleasant and profi-table,'
and the disolution that takes place
with this issne is both mutual and
harmonious. ‘
It has been our aim during our
short association with the BANNER, |
to uphold and defend the best in
terest of the people of Haralson
county, and to give them a paper
worthy of their support; as to how
far we succeeded in this line ig
for the public to judge.
The BANNER, at this time is on a
solid basis, and we are coufiident
that under its new management
it will excell its former standard.%
We return our thanks to the
patrons of the Banmer for their
hearty support and co-operation,
and also to our elever county
officers for the many favors shown
us. In conclusion we respectfully
ask you to still comntinue your
support to the BANNER in the fn
ture as you have dome in the
past.
Wishing the readers of the Bag~

with many pleasant recollections,
Yours Truly,
J. S. EpwARDs.

The Baxyer will not be run in the in

alone, but in the interesgt of the people,
The BAnNER is the offigial organ of Har
alson eounty and we expect to use eviry
effort in our power to make it onc of the
best county papers in the state. The
people of Haralson deserve a good pa
per as their county organ and they must,.
they shall have it. |
We anticipate a pleasant relationship
with the good people of Haralson and ad-
Joining counties, for we expect to give
them a good paper if it is in our power
to do so, and we know that they will ap

The General Confederate Reunion,

of the great Confederate Reunion,
which is to be held in Chattanoo
ga on July 3,4 and 5, 1890. It is
an exquisite bit of art. The cever
has on first page an immense U. 8.
flag in eolors, a splendid portrait
of Genepal J. B. Gordon, the Gen
eral Commanding the United Con
federate Veterans, printed on the
same. The fourth page has the
Counfederate flag, in proper colors
on its flight to the stars. Beneath
it is a colored illustration of the
famous scene at the battle of the
Wilderness. This explanation is
found under it:
“The artist describes the mo
ment on May 12, 1864, when John
ston’s Division had been surroun
ded and captured, and General
ILee had ridden ¢ the front to lead
the charge that was to save the
city of Rickmond. Lifting his
hat, Lee was about to give the
command, when General Gordon
rushed to him exclaiming: ‘“To the
rear, General! the safety of the
army demands it! These are Vir
ginians, and they never fail! For
ward!"’
As the command of the gallant
Georgian rang out, the line sprang
forward to the charge, aud two
stalwart soilders seizing the reins
of old Traveler, forced the com
mander they adered go te the
rear.'’
