M. Neill brought into our office last Wednesday a pistol ball that he had just extracted from the leg of Lundy Johnson, a negro who is lodged in our jail for steal ing some shoes and other things at Felton a few months ago. The negro claims to have been shot by gome one of the Sheriff’s possee when they attempted to arrest him near the depot, at this place, the evening after he did the steal ing. Barly Tuesday morning people began pouring in from every direction from the | country and neighboring vowns. Felton, l Draketown and in fact almost all of our sister towns were well representgd. ’,l‘hel north bound train brought quite a num ber of people from Carrollton, Kramer} and other points. Later on came the 'l‘allapmgsa. delegation, consisting of quite a number of her best ¢itizens, some of her fair young . ladies and the Tallapoosa band, which furnished music for the oc casion. They covered themselves in glo- | ry aud did honor to their town by the excellent musig they furnished. The Masons assembled at the hall and when the people had gathered, headed by the band, they marched from the hall avound the public square and down to the platform inthe grove west of thez 1 Loveless Hotel. { Qol, 8. L. Craven had been selected by the committee ag Master of ceremonies, also as speaker to deliver the welcome address. Col, Oraven delivered a short but interesting address of welcome, i which made the people feel t)lv||ls<el\'u'~'{ at home, ! After the address of welcome we ]m(l! speeches by jthe following distinguished gentlemen: Col. J. W, Biggers, of Draketown; W. W. Beachamp, Kranier, and W. W. Rea gan, of Kramer, As it was then about.l2 o’ciock an in tremission of one hour wasannouneced for dinner. A dinner that wonld be an hon or to any town or community was then spread and the people were. invited toin- i dulge freely. All ate and were fil]ed,i at least if they did not it was their faunlt. After dinner Dr. W. G. England, of Cedartown, was introdueed by Col, J. M. ‘ Mcßride, of Tallapoosa, and delivered quite an interesting address, after which the hand played the Dozology: “God be with you ’till we'meet again,’! and the meeting adjourned. As we announced last weegk, after the Masons had adjourned, the young peo ple assembled at the platform which had been built in the grove north of the pub lic square, and enjoyed themselves the remainder of the day ian dancng, ete. Bverything moved off lovely; the best of order was mantained throughout the day, and asJ. W. B. puts it, it was truly a “‘Red Letter day’’ for Buchanan, long to be remembered by the people, and especially the Masons, of Haralson and adjoining connties. : TR $ The yonngsters of Buchanan not being willing yet to give up the pleasures of the day, met after supper av the residence of Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Burden, and pass ed a few more pleasant hours by indulg ing in music and dancing and socigl con versations. 8: 8. Association and a Basket Dinner The third quarterly meeting of the Haralson county S.S. Associ ation will be held at Bremen Satur day and Sunday, 28th and 29th. Let all who live near enough bring a basket of dinner, then no one will be embarrassed, and we will have a.good time. We expect delegates from every gchool and hope to have some good speaking as well as fine s\inging‘, Let Bros.
