Cortifioat " et ggpii GEORGlA—Hanarson Covsry W, the undersigned delegates of the Democratic convention held “in Buchanan, Tuesday, September i@nfl’d, 1890, for the purpose of nom+ inaung candidates for the Legis- Aature and Senate—this being the time by the rotary ruie for Haral son county to nominate a candi «date for State Senator for the 38th[ Senatorial district—on the dnyl above mentioned, nominated H. D. Hutcheson for Senator on first ballot, after which his nemination was made unanimous, Dr. Goldin being one of the opposing candi dates, asked his delegates to co operaté in making Mr. Hutche gon’s nomination unanimous. The Jsaid Dr. Goldin pledged himself, “not only to abide the nomination or actions of the convention, but \‘o support the nominee. As to Mr. Goldin’s claims, that he wus defrauded out of the vote of the 7th district, which he claims would have nominated him,is who iy untrue, which is shown from the certificate of the delegates of the 7th district. The above facts show conclusively that H. D Hutcheson is rightfully the nomi nee for Senator of this, the 38th Senatorial distriet. Therefore, we, the undersigned delegates of said convention, most earnestly solicit the united support and hearty co-operation of the voters of this, the 38th Senatorial dis trict, in behalf of the nominee, H. D. Hutcheson, Signed. W. W. Beauchamp, Chair. C. L. McPherson, R. D. Chandler, M. K. Phillipps, R. H. Parker, J. iL. Eady, B. D. Conkae, D. C. Newman, A. D. Tally, G. W. Kemp, J. T. Tuggle, J. M. Dodson, A. D. Kilgore, W. .J. James, J. H. Mize, J. M. Sims, A. D. McEachern, John Dean, W. A. Smith, T. S. Latham, H. T. Reid, R. M. Bryant, B. F. Morgan, Del gates. e We, the undersigned delegates to the recent Democratic conven tion, which nominated H.. D. Hutcheson for Senator, make the following statement, as to our elec tion and the vote we cast in said convention: & We were solicited by the people of the 7th district, who were op posed to Dr. Goldin for the office of Senator to allow our names to go before the primary election as del egates to said convention—a full ticket of delegates having been previously put eut by Dr. Goldin, We congented to oppose said Gol din delegates and stated repeated ly and openly, that we were op posed to Dr. Goldin and, when the election was held and the vote counted we received 56 votes, and the Goldin delegates received 53 and the vote was so announced by the managers, one of whom was a brotherin-law of Dr. Goldin. The fight was made on us from the time the polls were opened until they were closed, that we were op posed to Geldin. We in turn made the fight on the opposition dele gates, that they were in favor of Goldin and they were defeated. We went to the convention and voted for H. D. Hutcheson and the re port that we have confessed that we were instructed to vote for Dr- Goldin and voted against our in structions is utterly false, for, as any fair minded man can see, we were instructed by our people to - vote against Dr. Goldin. and did it. We make this statement in justice to ourselves and the peo- 0 e R N 7 RM. Bevan, £ : H.T.Rfib) | B. I. Moraan. GREORGIA==HARALSON CoUnty!: Whereas, we, the undersigned mahagers of the primary election held in the 813th district, . M., (being the 7th district), on the 30th of Aug , 1890, for delegates to the Democrtic convention that convened at Buchanan the 2nd inst.. have signed a paper certi fying that W. F. Goldin received 54 votes in said primary election, Which is more than any other per son received at the aforesaid pri mary election, and Whereas, That certificate of ours may be construed in a manner that will be misleading, we,there fore, make this statement of explanation: Ist. Goldin did not rezeive but 53 votes Biggers 9 and 47 unin: structed. 2nd. The vote instructed for Biggers and the uninstructed vote ‘we believe was clearly agaiust Goldin, for the following reason: ‘Goldin had men out for delegates, and they received the same vote ‘that Goldin did, 53 votes and ‘those running a gainst them re ceived 56 votes, That justice may be done to all parties, interested, we desire that the above be made public. ‘ W, H. Remp, Jussie BEALL, Managers. ~ The other manager W. J. Wad dell being a brother-in-law to Dr. Goldin refused to sign the above, ~ Sentember 15th 1890, : To The Voters of The 38th Senatorial Distriot. - At a meeting of the Democratic Executive Committee of Haralson county, Georgia, held in July, ‘they agreed that each district f’should hold a primary election on the 30th of August and that each elect so many delegates to meet in convention to be held at Buch anan, Ga., on Tuesday, the 2d day of September, 1890, to nomi nate a Democrat for candidate to represent the county in the next Legislature and Senate. The com mittee agreed and decided that said delegates might be instruct ted, and each be entitled to a vote i said convention. Mr. H. D. Hutcheson, Mr, William Biggers and I were candidates before that convention. On the first ballot Mr. Hutcheson received 16 votes, Mr. Biggers 1 and I received 12; the three delegates from the 7th district, ignoring their instruc tions, voted against me. Had they heen cast for me as they were instrueted I would have had 15 votes and Mr. Hutcheson 12. I received in the primary election held in that district 54 votes, be ing the highest number cast for either candidate, as will appear from certificate hereto attached. Those delegates acknowledge that they voted against me and ziéb.ilnst their instructions. I was certainly entitled to these 3 votes. I therefore claim that I am the nominee of the Democratic party. I will say that I knew nothing of this until several days after the nomination and thought that I was defeated, not having the re motest idea that any fraud had been practiced upon me, and sig- l nified my wiilingness and inten tion of supporting the nov;hine_e of the convention. But feeling that I have been unjustly treated, I as sert my rights and am a candi date elected by the people who vo ted in said primary election. I ask you, gentlemen, to be as sured that I am not insensible of the high responsibility resting upon the representative of those grand old counties, Polk, Paul ding and Haralson; and should 1 ‘be elected 1 will support any measures that have for their ob= jects the general and public wel fare of the people, not only of this HSenatorial Distriet, but of the grand old state of Georgia, . W.F. GOLDIN. GHORGIA—HArALSON CovxTy: We certify that Dr. W, F. Gol din received fifty-four votes, that being the highest number cast for candidates for the Senate ata pri wmary election held in the 7th dis= trict G.
