This new and valuable South American medicine possesses powers and qualities hitherto unknown to the medical Frofession. This medicine has completely solved the problem of the cure of Indi estion, Dfspepsia, Liver Tomplaint, and diseases of the general Nervous éystem. t also cures all forms of failing health from whatever cause. It performs this by the Great Nervine Tonic qualities which it possesses and by its great curative powers upon the digestive organs, the stomach, the liver and the bowels. No remedy compares with this wonderfully valuable Nervine Tonic as a builder and strengthener of the life forces of the human body and as a great renewer of a broken down constitution. It is also of more real permanent value in the treatment and cure of diseases of the Lungs than any ten consumption rem edic: ever used on this continent. It is'a marvelous cure for nervousness of few oof all ages. Ladies who are approaching the critical period known as change in life, should not fail to use this great Nervine Tonic almost constantly for the s'Bace of two or three years. It will carry them safely over the danger. This great strengthener and curative is of inestimable value to the aged and infirm, because its great energizing properties will give them a new hold on life. It will add ten or fifteen years to the lives of many of those who will use a half dozen bottles of the remedy each year. Nervousness of Old Age, Bronchitis and Chronic Cough, Neuralgia, " Liver Complaint, Pains in the Heart, Chronic Diarrheea, Pains in the Back, | Delicate and Scrofulous Children, Failing Health. # Summer Complaint of Infants. All these and many other complaints cured by this wonderful Nervine Tonie, NERVOUS DISEASES. * As a cure for every class of Nervous Diseases, no remedy has been able to compare with the Nervine Tonic, which is very pleasant and harmless in all its effects upon the youngest child or the oldest and most delicate individ wal. Nine-tenths of all the ailments to which the human family is heir, are dependent on nervous exhaustion and impaired digestion. ‘When there is an, insufficient supply of nerve food in the blood, a general state of debility of the brain, spinal marrow and nerves is the result. Starved nerves, like starved muscles, become strong when the right kind of food is supplied, and a thousand weaknesses and ailments disappear as the nerves recover. As the nervous system must supply all the power by which the vital forces of the body are ‘carried on, it is the first to suffer for want of perfect nutrition. Ordinary food does not contain a sufficient qua.n’citf}7 of the kind of nutriment Icessary to repair the wear our present mode of living and labor imposes upon the nerves. For this reason it becomes necessary that a nerve food be supplied. This recent production of the South American Continent has been found, by analysis, to contain the essential elements out of which nerve tissue is formed. This accounts for its magic power to cure all forms of nervous derangements. : ¥ ~ CRAWFORDSVILLE, IND., Aug. 20,86, To the Grcat South American Medicine Co.: DE. ® GENTS:—I desire to say to you that I have suflered for many years with a ve? seri ous disease of the stomach and nerves. CRAWFORDSVILLE, IND., May 19, 1886. My daughter, twelve years old, had been af flicted for several months with Chorea or St, Yitus’s Dance. She was reduced to a skeleton, could not walk, could not talk, could not swal low anything but milk, I had to handle her like an infant. Doctor and neighbors gave her up. Icommenced giving her the South Ameri can Nervine Tonic; the effects were very sur prising, In three éa.ys she was rid of the ner vousness, and rapidly improved. Four bottles cured her completely. I think the South American Nervine the grandest remedy ever discovered, and would recommend it to every one. : Mgzs, W, 8, ENSMINGER, &tate of Indiana, g 8 Montgomery éounty, » Subscribed and sworn to beforome this May 19, 1887. Electrical heaters for warming apart ments are also made. There is, in deed, no end to the useful applications of wire and electricity. Heligoland will be occupied by the Germans for scientific as well as de- ‘ fensive purposes. A meteorological station will be established on the island while naturalists are looking forward so studying bird life and marine ani mals to great advantage. An English scientific person has dis covered that sitting down is an ac quired habit. The majority of man kind do not sit, but simply squat, or, ‘ as is sometimes said, sit on their heels. This’ position, the scientific person thinks, is the natural one, while sitting on a chairis an artificial one. A few miles from the eastern shore of Florida, nearly opposite Matanzas, a large spring of fresh water boils up mn great abundance. So large is this spring that Lieutenant Maury took his little coast survey steamer on top of ¢tthe boil,” and it was quickly swept to one side by the boiling spring. It is not generally known that ex cessive palpitation of the heart can be promptly stopped by bending double, with the head downward and the arms pendent, so that a temporary conges tion of the upper part of the body is produced. If the breath is held at the same {ime the effect of this action is hastened. Prof. Pickering, basing his conclu sions on a series of photographs of the planet Mars in April, concludes that the southern temperate regions of Mars have just experienced an irrup tion of polar ice no less remarkable than that which still adds the zest of danger to the navigation of our own North Atlantic. The star which gives the greatest parallax of any, and which in conse quence is believed to be nearest to the earth, is Alpha Centauri, a star never visible in this latitude. But even this star’s parallax is only 93-100ths of a second, which corresponds to a dis tance of 221,000 times the sun’s dis tance from our earth, or over 20,000,- 000,000,000 of miles. Railway collisions, from the inabili ty to stop the locomotive, are likely to be made impossible when the elec tric light is substituted for the oil lamps now in use. Recent experi ments prove that the electric headlight casts light from half to three-quarters of a mile ahead. A train going at the rate of sixty miles an hour can thus be stopped in time to prevent accident. Of all the vegetables which furnish nourishment to man the banana is the most prolific. A single cluster often contains 160 to 180 pods and weighs from sixty to eighty pounds. Hum boldt says that a piece of land 1206 square yards will produce 4,000 pounds weight of fruit, while the same area will rarely produce more than thirty pounds weight of wheat or eighty pounds of potatoes. The elecivic light is being turned to very artistic use by a prominent wall paper manufacturer of New York city. The dark, clear-cut shadows caused by the play of the electric light among the foliage of trees have often been re marked, and the gentleman in question has been for some time making, by means of photography a series of re cords of these beautiful effects, whieh he intends to use in connection with his business. The collection is a valu-~ able one, and some of the designs which have already been made from it are of exceptional merit. R Got Careless and Looked Back. This time Colon, | Aspinwall, has suffered even more heav ily than before, and the loss is calculated to exceed $1,000,000. The section con sumed embraced the whole of the city, front, and everything was destroyed save a few stone walls, where stood business house buildings in which for years a large general business had been done. The railroad company is a heavy loser in cars, while shippers and consignees of through cargoes report a loss of at least ninety car loads of freight, All the priucipal business houses were destroyed. Among this number were those occupied by Messrs. Ehrmen, Maduro & Cuyos, Pisa Lindo & Co., Isaacs & Arch and A. James & Co., as well as all the hotels, the Panama Railroad Company’s office, Pan ama railroad freight house and other equally imgortant buildings were among those which fell. The suffering and des titution resulting everywhere from the fire strike with extreme bitterness and severity on the transient population, which is at present totally dependent on occasional jobs of work for means of subsistence, There is nothing on which to employ the homeless, and starvation stares them in the face.
