Mg, Bbrror.—lt has been talked and published that I ;;g\‘f‘,jfifiié"a*gandidate for clerk “of the Superior court. 1 have tulked to several about it and I think wy chance for the oflice _is tavorable, but it has been sug gested that the alliance select the candidates for the differ ent eflices, I hope the alliance men and all the people will de cide this matter openly and pub licly and have no secrets in it. I don’t think such moves are right or just touny free people. ! have been opposed to any se cret political move in the alli ~ance. That is going to have a sfrong bearing on Everett’s election and is likely to cause his defeat. The course that Copeland is persuing don’t suit the people in dictating how to vote, I sce in the Atlanta Journal where an allianceman gives his views: “There was no yard stick when | joined the alliance and the obligation was not what some claims.” There has been an effort made to prejudice the people against some of the best and wisest men in the United States, such as Carlisle, Crisp, Mills, Vance and others. Our hopes depend on sueh men with Vorhees and others. This po litical move in the alliance I fear will lead to danger. We should be true Americans and honest Georgians and pure dewmocrats, Now, I believed 1 was an allianceman and I hope -1 am, but I don’t indorse the alliance leaders’ politicai course. You read and think ot McCune on the compound lard Lill; notice what Everett says about the sub-treasurer bill. Everett defeated Clements on that issue. Now, Everett says if the democrats are opposed to the bill he will be also, and the idea of the government se curing the railroads and run ning them is folly. Georgia tried that with the state road. That would soon bankrupt the government, I understand the democratic party offers a good plan of government.Thatis low tariff and more currency. So let us follow our old leaders, such as Cleveland and others, and not go off after new lead ers, such s McCune and oth ers who have not been tried. My idea of the alliance was to organize, to advise and econo mize in farming and living, but I believe it has led to extrav agance. The alliauce officers’ salary, the alliance literature and the alliance meetings and dinners. It is said no onecan be a true alliance unless they take part in all these expenses, which [ have not done, but 1 have read a-good deal and be live the Southern Cultivator gives more good advice than all of the alliance literature, that is for the farmer. Let us think and figure on the cost of the alliance. Mr. Copeland in his specch at Cor intfi caused me to think of these things and how he sold his little pamphlet. [ don’t see where the allianco has taught-how to make any more corn and cot—} ton on one acre of land. Who pays all the cost of the alli ance? If it is the laborers they skiould have something more than politics. | I see in the Southern Alli ance Farmer it will take until that is—to’ get control of the Fam*hment. T thought the al hance principles were in line with democratic principles. A third party is denied but the leaders of the democratic par ty are opfiosed. Now [ think we all should be of a party that we can meet our polit ical friends at any time and any where and not shut in some and shut out some. It causes confusion, We had Dbetter let the alliance die than to de vide the democratic .party. The exchange has been a price regulator. I believe money managed right will regulate prices in the exchange or out of it. I am afraid the exchange will go into speculation. See how Corput claimed he did not put the fifty cents in his pocket but put it in the ex change on guano. Was that right? Did Everett do right to help settle that as they did? I have give my views and ideas. I wish every man to have his own notions and views. Now, as:to me running for an office is for the people to say publicly and not ' the alli ance in secret. Every candi date should run on his qualfica tions and merits, I close, wishing you and your paper success. Yous respectfully, T. S. Latnau. Eupepsy.
