TRAGIC Was the Scene in a New York Criminal Court CONVICTED OF ARSON The Mother tried to murder he children while her own Mother and Brothers screamed and at tempted Suicide \;,> w York, February 18.—A wild gcene occurred in Part 111., Gener- I gessions, at noon today, when jj rH bln Lieberman was convicted o f nrmii in the second degree. The jury I.ad been out all nignt. • \Ve fnd the prisoner guilty, as a ]y.ged in the indictment, 'and with a very strong rccommmda ti .i> for mercy,” said the foreman. S di a scene as followed the verdict has probably never been w jt) in the Criminal Court in this citv. The defendant, pal* fora nioim nt. as if stunned completely, jun pid up, and, seizing the rail declared that she was innocent. Simultaneously a shriek went up from the rear of the courtroom. It was the shrieks of the defendant’s mo lc r. Mrs. Stein, at d her broth ers. Morris and Meyer Stein. It was an agonizing scream, and the court room win in such a state of pand*- immiCT that every one present seemed terrified. In oim corner sat Mrs. L eber ma ’» two children, a boy and girl of >h year*. They were in the car- of Mrs. Foster, the Tombs ang'* l . In the confusion ' . Liebsr- nisii rushed over re ’I m and •< - detivored to choke Ihcti., shouting that si a d’d not care '<> »ee ihen a ive w h.l* she was in prison . Tw< court alteudants rush'd over t< her and held her back. They vaiu ly attempted to pacify her. In ihe meantime her mother ht.<» fallen in a fit or th ■ door hi < he two sons threw tb»meelver on to »f her. In their frenzy, both j Shins pulled their heir out ini h» dtuis, and it looked as if they were sbout to kill themselves. Finally they’ were carried out ii. the hall, and the moment Meyer saw the open space over the balus trade he made an attempt to jump down. He was caught, by an at i tendant. The other brother con tinued to tear his hair out until the Court officers seized his hands.. The excitement was intense. Mrs Stein was thought to have died from shocks. A physician was called from the Health Board, who said that she was not in danger, but instructed the attendants to look after her. It was fully an hour before the Court was restored to its usual condition. The verdcit will probably mean a fiftesn-year sentence for Mrs. Lieberman. HER INTERFERNCE.
