It would consume too much space to undertake to set forth at this time anything like a detailed stat - ment of the various features of the big edition. Suffice it to say that Floyd’s matchless natural re sources will be set for h, that the agricultural advantages will not, be overlooked, that the Commercial life and Educational facilities will be “written up,” while the manu facturing and mining industries will not be forgotten. In other words the Hustler of Rome May-Day Trade Edition will be an exposition of Floyd, the Banner county of the Empire State of the South. That it has “emitted” the popu lar chord is evidenced to the man agement on every side, both in the stock takers, who buy space, and those who sre lending us a helping hand in a hearty co-operation. As a sample of what the people think[ofthe movement, we produce below a copy of a letter recently received from Col. W. W. Can you furnish a sufficient number of copies of your Trade Edition of the Hu tler of Rome at a special rate for this purpose? If so please let me know on what terms. Yours Truly, W. W. To the above, The Hustler of Rome management has responded and an agreement has been arrived at by which the Trade Edition will be sent to these home seekers of the famine stricken Northwest. The Tarde Edition will contain no advertisments for out of Rome merchants. Let the Rome busi ness men ponder that. The Trade Edition will go to the. people of this territory largely, but the few hundreds of copies sent to the far off inquirer and home seeker will do its work better if the paper shows up full of all home all Rome business. May 7.—Lord Sholto Douglas, son of the Marquis of Quensberry, has told his concert hall love, Lourette Addis, that he cannot marry her and will notun less she holds him to his promise- “The whole affair,” said his lordship, “is most unfortunate. When I fir.-,t went to Banksfield ] visitied the resort kept by Frank Carson, known as the Bijou. Hero I met Miss Addis or Miss Mooney and must confess I liked her in a way. I had indulged a little too freely and jokingly asked her if she would marry me. She said she would think it over. Both herself and her brother were opposed to the proposal at first, but after talking the matter over with their friends changed their minds. “All this occured while I was in a hazy condition, produced by con suming the frothy beverage retailed at Frank’s for $1 a bottle. When the effect of the spree had worn off I realized the peculiar position in which my foolish proposal had placed me. There is that unfortunate promis and it acts as a bar to my summar ily severing whatever relations may exist between us. It is a matter of honor to me. It is the same as if I had given my bond.” UNCLE SAM. A Heavy Loser By Undervaluations in Importations. Philadelphia, Penn., May 7. — In the repppraisements of decora ted China and cut and decorated glassware shipped to this port by A. B. Daniell & Sons, of London, glaring undervaluations have been discovered by Special Treasury Agents. Some idea of the loss to the National Treasury may be gath ered from the fact that on one in voice alone the London shippers were compelled to band over $2,800 additional duties. Other invoices were settled in the same way. The Board of General Appraisers reviewed the case in New York, and without a difference of opinion the appraisements of A. B. Daniell & Sons were advanced up to 250 per cent, and notification was forward ed at once to the Collector of the Port of Philadelphia. It is believed that the under valuations have involved looses of $150,000 per annum, and that the fraud has been going on for at least 10 years past. Very little of the merchandise came to Philadel phians, but was consigned to weal thy railroad Presidents and capital ists in Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Louis, Pittsburg, Cincinnati and as far West as San Francisco. WHILE DRUNK Homer Bruce Shoots Paul John son at Bedford, Ind. Bedford, Ind., May 7. — While intoxicated, Homer Bruce last night shot and killed Paul Johnson, a boy 16 years old. Yeager Bruce and William Emery werejwuh him. All three are now in jail. T iey are all young men, and have been friends of Job; son’s. No one spok> a word before the shooting. The Bruces and Emery we it to where Johnson was at work, and poiu inxtha pis.ol toward him, tired. The ball entered his forehead and he died in a few miuutes. The boys claim this morning they were so drunk they did n >t know what they w< re doing. ANGRY FATHER ____________________. Attempts to Kill the Alleged As sailant of His Little Daughter Wabash, Ind., May 7. —Edith, the ten year-old daughter of Frank Kerr, who makes her home with her grandfather, Abraham Vander grift, near Treaty, this county, was assaulted, it is alleged, by Edward Fox, aged 18, who lives in the same neighborhood. Fox had gone over to the Vandegrift place with two | men and remained after they had I left. The little girl was alone, and it is alleged ho assaulted her stifling her cries with her clothing. BALFOUR BROUGHT BACK Large Crowds at London Station To get a Glimpse ot him London, May 7. —Jabez Spencer Balfour, absconding ex-member of parliament, who was respondsible for the collapse of the Liberator Building Association and other companies, whereby thousands of investors were ruined, was landed at Southampton dock this morning. When the steamer Tartar Prince, upon which Baifour was brought from Buenos Ayres, arrived in the harbor this morning Ja custom house launch immediately went to her and Balfour was transferred to her and landed. A tug containing sixty press re porters sought to board the Tar-' tar Prince, but were notallowed to, do so. Meanwhile detectives on, board the customs launch avoided the docks, which were crowded! with excited people awaiting him, and landed Balfour at Wetley wharf, The landing was quietly made and Balfour put on board the train without being noticed and started for Loudon at 7:40 o’clock. Arriving in London, the train' stopped at Vauxhall station, and Balfour, instead of being taken to Waterloo station, where an im mense crowd was awaiting his ar rival, was transferred to a cab and drawn to Bow street police station. The expectant crowds were baf fled at every point and nene of them were gratified in catching a glimpse of the prisoner. Balfour was immediately put into the pris oner’s dock ami charges formally lodged against him. He looked in* good health, but was downcast and taciturn.
