TWO HUSBANDS And a Policeman Chased the Pret ty Blnnde says She’s a Bigamist. New York, July B. Mrs. Ma.iw Woolmau, nn artificial blonde, who baa good looks sufficient to win twe husbands, was a prisoner >n the Harlem Magistrates Court to day on a charge of bigamy. The warrent for her arrest was procured by husband No. 1, Wil liam Cronheim, a liquor dealer on Second avenue. He and husband No. 2, Louis Wollmann, an em ploye on Third avenue, accom panied Policeman Levy to arrest her. The officer could not get into her apartments, and a woman across the hall said she was not at home. The officer went out and stationed the two husbands within sight house as sentinels. Pretty soon they saw a blonde head which they both recognized, stuck out at the window. Then the offi cer and the two men slipped into a saloon opposite and watched the house. After a couple hours vigilance she came out and hurried toward che Elevated Station at Eighty fourth street and Third avenue. Levy dashed after her. She saw him coming and ran. Itwasapret •y race, w ith the two husbands bringing up the rear and urging the officer to put forth better sprint ing efforts. The woman reached the station, and was half way up the stairs when her wdnd failed and she drop ped on a step. Levy came up smiling and took her to the East Eighty-eighth Station. Cronheim, Husband No. 1, says: “I was married to her in 1888- Then her name was Mary Adplfsen She was a native of Norway. She was a pretty brunette then. I had a big liquor business at Coney Is land. I went to Europe in the sum mer of 1894, and when I returned I found that she had been pretty gay. She pleaded for forgiveness, and the thing was settled between ns. I went to Europe again this jtear, and returned in June. Then I found that she had married Louis Woolman under the name of An nie Meyers. She lived with him a few weeks and left him, and went to live with a young man of the name of Charles Seaman at Thirty second street and Second avenue. Not long ago the woman had Wollman arraigned in the Har em Police Court for non-support. She claimed that Wollman wanted her to act as a servant, accept siuations and then when he got his fee she was to run away from the family, return to him and repeat the trick. Magistrate Crane held her in sl,- 000 bail for examination next Tuesday. TWO SIDES. Os the old Soldiers Colony Scheme in Georgia. Indianapolis, Ind., July 8.-P.H. Fitzgerald, whois fathering the “Old Soldiers’ Colony” scheme in Georgia, r-ports that the rece pts from shareholdere now aggregate SI2S,(MX) and that he will go to Georgia next week and begin the purchase of lands held by op'ion. He also reports that 11,700 heads of families, repressing 55,000 peo ple, are already interested as sub scribers. Ex-Governor Northean, who is both agent and shareholder, will meet Fitzgerald and his clients at Abdeyville, -so thet the deeds may be passed. • Three and one half miles from ths old soldiers’ colony is the Drew farm, where Jeff davis was cap tured, and Fitzgerald has secured an option on th’ft-farm, which will be absorbed because of historical importance. F tzgerald is sanguine that the scheme is a go, but much doubt is being cast upon the enterprise in many quarters. A telegram was received to-day from Logansport saying that old soldiers of Weite Newton and Ben ton Counties commissioned John Sapp, of Goodland, to visit Geor gia and inspect the promised land. Mr. Sapp wri'es hack that the land is not worth the clear ing: that it is covered by a groth of pine, which has been ruined by barking and hacking for turpent i n e, and that the proposeds ite of the col- county seat is a cypress pond filh-d with alligators. J.line* Logue a white-haired criminal, 50 years old, who is serving a two years s ntenco in Sing Sing for burglar?, is said to be incursblv sick. For this reason John F. O’Brien, of N >. 1 108 Lultou street, counsel for the man of many burglaries, to-dav applied to Governor Murton for Logue’s pardon. He baarspart of the application on the assumption that Logues is a hereditary criminal, in proof of which Q’Brien submitted a let ter from Logue’a mother to her son, which says, in part: “Juat before you were born you' father spent all his wages in drink. I found it very hard to ger bread and meat. At last it got so that the only way I could get his mon ey was by waiting until he was asleep at night and thin picking his pockets. Many and many a night I have got up when he was asleep in the bed by my side, tip toed over to where his cloathes lay, like a thief, to go through his pock ets and take what money I found there. He was at that time drink ing so hard that every night almoat he would go to bed drunk, and the next morning he could not re membar whether or not he had any money when he came home. Thus I went through all the brain sensations of a dering burg lar, even such as I am iuform»d you have become. Killed in a West Virginia Woods man's Cabin. Parkersburg, W. Vs., T illy 8. — Hipe Williams, a well known h’inierand woodsman, "hn liV‘F •v ar Brownv ille, Braxton County, had an Jexciting experience a few evenings ago with a tremendous rattlesnake. Williams and his family were eat. ing sup] er in Jtheir kitchen when, a rttlesnake thaust its head through a rat hole in the floor. One of the children, a little ten-year-old girl, who was sitting near the spot, hap pened to look down and SAW the snake near her feet. She screamed and fell from her chair in a swoom almost within reach of the reptile which fortunately had not yet draw its entire length out of the hole and consequently could not coil to strike. Williams ran to the spot and seiz ing the child snatched it out of the range of the reptile just as it was coiling to erike. He quickly took’the child out of danger, and’ after ordering the rest of the famly 0 keep quiet, seized an ax and cut the snake in two at the first blow The reptile was six feet long and had 17 rattles. SHE USED A SHOTGUN. Oiley, Ga., July 8. —Mrs Robert Cone committeed suicide by shooting herself with a shotgun . She took off her shoe, put a not< in one stocking and with the toe of the other foot, touched the trig ger. She discharged both barrels o* shot into her breast. No causes if assigned. Fhe and Lava- r Naples, July B.—The crater of Mount. Etna is again pouring forth fire, smoke and lava. Mount Vesu vius is also in a s'ate of eruption, and is reported to be in worse con dition than Mount .Etna. The town of Resina, in South Italy, built over the Ulins of Her culaneum, is threatened. Villages in the vicinity of both volcanoes are belived to be in danger. Four bays at one Birth. Parkersdurg, W.
