Crown Point, Ind,, Auguot 15. —Excitement is nt fever heat nt Horsford Park, a little boom eul>- divinion near Rohr Station, on the Elgin, Joliet and Extern Riilw y •evon miles north of this city. Sheriff Benj. Hayes received s tnlegrnm last night stating that an ittempt was made last night to poison the whole village, and to day the Sheriff and entire force of deputies are at the scene. The 50 inhabitants of that vil lage attended a dance last night, and four people are not expected to live through the night. Chas. Williams, Miss Resig and two ot er girls from Chicago are the vic tims. During the oarlv part of the evening some unknown v Hain placed arsenic or strychnine in large quanit’ps in tha water pail, and the dancers drank freely of it, and about 20 were poisoned befor it was discovered. They all commenced vomiting, but most of them are better today, excepting the four, who will prob ably die. The water was examined by physicians, who pronounces t ,e poison arsenic. Charles Williams, one of the victims, who is not expected to live, is manager of the Horsford Park Land .Company, and came there from Chicago about two years ago. He says he believes the water was poisond to do him up as he had several enemies in the village. Horsford Park has been the scene of many unknown crimes during the last five years, and the gnilty party has never been oaptnred.Two years ago an old man, 87 years old was found chained to a tree, dead, having been starved to death for a few hundred dollars, and the guilty murderer has never been found out. Two years ago the bones of five odies were found in the “muck” near an old deserfed spring, which probably are the remains of a whole family foully murdered. Horsf rd Park is on no railroad connecting with this city, and what news ar rives comes through a messenger and famers. Sheriff Hayes and De puties are all there to-day. Lightning Killed Four.
