L Stringfellow, the Southern traveling representative of the Preferred Accident Ibsu rance Co., of New York was in the city a few hours Saturday looking after the interests of his big com pany. Mr. Stringfellow paid to Col. Phill G. Byrd an indemnity of SIOO due for two weeks disability oc casioned by injury received in a railroad collission on Lookout Mountain the latter part of Its mouth. Col. Byrd took out his policy at noon on the 18th of September and was injured in the collission on the evening of the 20th. He filed his claim last Monday and onfatirday received his indem nity. Yesterday o:t*rnoon Will Knox, col, met Coot Justus and Joe Gar rett, two yeung white men, on tl e railroad out near Mr. Carr Berry hill’s farm. A quarrel ensued, when Coot Justus drew a pistol and fired at t 3 negro. Knox was hit in the thigh, near the groin, and turning fled down the track. Justus fired four other shots at the fleeing darkey but none of them took effect. Tbe s’ ooting was witnessed by Mr. Charlie Marshall, of down the Coosa river.
