IMPORTANT TO FC MINS Every tax-payer of Rome is urg ed to pay his City tax before No vember Ist. On that date the cify has obligations to meet that can not be postponed. Three hundred tax fifas are already in the hand of the City Clerk, and, will be de livered to the Marshal next week for execution. But it is desired to avoid this method of collection if possible and save to the tax-payers any additional cost; therefore this urgent appeal is made for the prompt payment of taxes and wa ter rents. No go< d citizen who cares for the credit of the city will fail to respond promptly to this call. W. J. Neel, Chairman Finance Comm ittee. THE HUSTIER OF ROME TUESDAY OCTOBER, 22 1895 TWO GOODUNS Katie Putnam, Rome’s Great Fa vtFite, Comes Next. THEN ‘'ALVIN JOSLIN” By Mr. Char L. Davis Gives Romans "u Pair" of The Best /Attractions on the Road. Be here on 24th. and 26th The story ot C. T. Dazey's play ‘The Oil Lime Fin,” writ'en for the charming actress Katie Putnam, involves that mingling of the pathetic and the humorous that is a part of the life of every o .e. Lights and shadows have been deftly used by the talented author with the result that he has pro duced a play of strong heart inter e t, it is in no reuse overdrawn. Its incidents, ranging from tragic to homely, are naturally drawn. Its characters,— —the out-cas s m to whom, enduring the stings and punishment of a false accusa tion, opium furnishes the only re lease from sorrow ; the waif Nita, who shares her wretched father’s lot in the Yellowstone National Park ; the real culprit, upon whose charge and manufactured proof an innocent man suffers; tho blinded father who, upon presentation of this manufactured proof has driv en his innocent son from his home. Ou These are among the serious characters, and the author has d awn them with fidelity to bu rn n nature. Then as incidental c laracters, are the Irish coporal whose proto-type might have been Kipling's Mulvaney; Biddy , a jolly Irish serving woman, whose avordupois and spirits are both at tie top notch ; the dashing cap— tiin in the U. S. Regular Service; The -‘Chaperony” seeking her affinity and others that have their work in < eveloping the plot and s orv. The play is full of incident a d rich in color. It ha> been produced ai d mount e m a 1 av.sh manner and the g entry, of which almost, a car load is used, is in every sense worthy <>f the play it adorns and illu triit-s. This play will be pre 8-nled by xMsss Put n i'll and her Company, which includes th popular Irish Comedian Herfwrt Ciwthorn, at the Navin opera house next lhur-«biy night. It was the first of the rural comedies to be produced that in late years became so popular. There was quite a large family es them at one time, but “Alvin Joslin” seems to he the only one that has survived. ‘'Alvin Joslin” is now on his farewill tour, and has made extra effor s to make this sea son's production of his vAry suc cessful comedy, the be?’ he has ever given it in the way of scenic efforts, while his eli; porting com pany has been selected with great care, and is in every way a capable one.
