FRIDAY/EVENING OC X OBEP 86' 1895 POSTPONED The Hearing For a N w Trial For The Husband Murderer MRS. NOBLES. Her SanityTo Her Questioned. Her Attorney is Said To Have Considerable Evi dence on The Ques tion. Macon, Ga., Oct. 26. —Mr. Mar ion Harris learned today that the hearing of the Nobles case has been postponed until the 3 Ist in stant on account of Judge Smith s absence in Washington. The hear ing will come off at Mount Vernon and will be on Attorney Harris’s extraordinary motion for a new trial, which, when it was first made before Judge Smith at Clin ton on the 14th instant was taken cognizance of and the execution of the court’s senteice cf death staid until the motion could be heard at more length. When Mr . Harris presents his final argument on the motion he will adduce some testimony that will be hard to evade by the states counsel. He will go down to Mount Vernon armed with affi davits of Mrs. Noble’s insanity that came from people who have known her all their lives and on oath say that she has never been of sound mind and is an irresponsi ble person, unable to judge the right from the wrong. The most important of the affi davits will be that of Mrs. Nancy Landfair, of Pulaski county, who will swear that insanity has dwelt in the Nobles family for genera tions back; that her father, her two sisters, her aunt and uncle all died insane, the most of them in the niae house. She claims to have known Mrs. Nobles intimately for fifty years and that she has al ways been of unsound mind and so considered in her neigborhood. Other affidavits cf a similar kind will be presented, signed by W. H. Stokes, B. B. Dykes, William fccorborough, A. A Griggs and other old citizens of Pulaski coun ty, all of which have been filed in i Twiggs county superior court. *J. S. BRIDENJURED A Runaway Team Injuries Several Po<ole, SOME OF THEM FATALLY Yesterday Afternoon a Bridal Party Were Thrown From a Carriage Receiving Great Injuries. Girl’s Fractured. Johnson City, Tenn., Oct. 26. A catastrophe occurred here yes terday afternoon which came near resulting ih the loss of life ti a new bridal party. Prof. Massengill and wife, Mrs. Ina Massengill, were thrown from a carriage and the latter received some dangerous concussions on the head. Miss Gertrude Henry, of this city, the maid of honor, was also out and sustianed a bad fracture of the arm and a scarred head. Prof Massengill barely es caped unhurt, but the colored dri ver was struck to unconsciousness and his internal injuries may prove fatal. The couple was married yester day at Ervin and were en route to the groom’s home at Blountville While driving to the train the horse became frightened and the carriage was overturned. Miss Rosa Plumb and her moth er arrived in the city yesterday from Augusta. Miss Rosa will be cordially welcomed to this city by i a very wide circle of friends aud j all her relative. HORRIBLEMORDER Killed And Placad 01 a Railraal Traek at South Greenfied, Mo. W. L PFRCELI. His Body Was Founa on The Track Yesterday Morning, two Trains Having Pass ed over him. He was a Druggist Golden City, Mo., Oct., 26. Two trains are supposed to have passed over the corpse of W. L. Purcell, who was found on the main line of the Memphis route near the stone works at South Greenfield this mooning but this did not hid the fact that he had been foully murdered. Purcell was a one legged man and owned a drug 8 ore and livery stable at South Greefiold. He was fond of gambling and sport, was last seen alive with a strange man at a late hour last night When found this morning his head was crushed and near by a club was picked up covered with blood. His gold watch was mis sing, and as he usually carried a big roll of money, it was supposed that he was killed and robbed. A singular circumstance was that 200 yards away a bundle of letters be longing to him was found in a well. Bio jdhounds have been tele graphed for anda systematic search will be made for the murder.
