Lansing, Mich., March 28. —The new caucus law, which| requires I primaries to be held after the, manner of general elections, with booths and all the other election paraphernalia, was given its first trial here to-day, and the unani mous verdict is that it is a fiat failure. ADRIFT IN SAGINAW B Y. Bay City, March 28. —The fifteen fishermen who were carried eut Tuesday on au ice tioe in Sag inaw Bay are said to be in no im mediate danger. The ice is solid and the indications are that it is drifting back to the west shore. None of the men have reached their homes. Tbeir friends enter tain no fears for their safety. QUEER STORM AT DENVER. Denver, Col., March 28.—With abnormally warm temperture and the sun brightly shining, the wind blew a gale all day, reaching fifty-eight miles an hour at noon, considerable damage to property occurred, This morning at Lead rille. Col., an elevation of 11, 000 fest, clouds hung over the city so densely that the street lamps had to be lighted. SWALLOWED MORPHINE- Frank R. Castlemaine, husband I of one of the seven Sutherland sisters, - committed suicide with morphine last night. He was 38 b’ years old and was manager of the sisters. He lived at. West Twenty fifth street. Although he left several notes in which he speaks disparagingly of two of the sisters, no cause is known for his net. Thompson's Strange Case. Lancaster, .March 28.—There is no material change in the condi tion of Harry Thompson today, and the physicians are non plumed by the case. The bullet entered that portion of the brain controll ing the muscles of the leg, yet he has full control! < ver that mem ber. Fla., March 28. Near Alachua, in this county, John Easterlin shot and fat.lly wound ed James Watson yesterday morn ing. ' ■ Watson spent Friday night at the home of Easterlin’s mouther, the young men sleeping togather. j Yesterday morning, as they were dressing Easterlin began snapping I a revolver at Watson. The latter protested and Easterlin said the I weapon was not loaded. He had hardly spok m when j there was an explosion and a bul] pet went through Watson’s head. | Before becoming unconscious, Batson said Easterlin knew the pistol was loaded ajud, wanted to kill him. Georgetown, Tex., March 28— Matt Mootrey, colored, was hanged here yesterday, in present e of 4 000 people, for the murder of Andrew Pickril, a Bohemian farm er. lust May. His confederate, Al bert Rolli, was executed last Fri day. Mootrey confessed his crime, but. <lid not seem to think it justified hanging. He caused the people to laugh over his reference to a game of cards wrh a white man in which be said his hand was stolen. He also laughed heartily himself at the reminiscence. Omaha, March 28.—The celebrat ed ‘‘Curfew” ordinance, passed by the City Cooneil last week, and providing tha< children under the age of filteen years shall be off the streets after da.k, was vetoed to day by Mayor Broatch. The Mayor says that he believes lhejordiance would tea dead letter and it fla vors toe much of the Conneticut blue laws to suit his id as. He says under this ordinance the public would be treated to the spectacle of children taken to the nearest patrol box and afterwards hauled through the streets to the city jail, there to be detained un till the parents or guardians are communicated with. Should this fail a night would l e *p*nt n jail, Such treatment wou'd bit at the moral susceptibilities of most any child. Played A Lively Game. Rome, N. Y., March 28.—The receiver of the defunct Fort Stan wix bank has discovered a number of notes purporting to have been made oy persons in town, whose names were forged, presumably by the late cashier, Barnard. These forged notes will aggregate many thousand dollars. The inference is that Barnard used the money ob tained on these notes iu paying the dividends to stockholders, thus keeping np the financial standing of the Fort Stanwix bank. Trouble In Bolivia Lima. Peru, March 28. —Word has been received hers that a mu tiny has broken out in the army Bolivia, s u veral persons having been killed and wounded. The out break has been attended with great excitement.
