Berlin, March 30.—A duel with pistole was fought in the Neuba biMsburg Wood yesterday morn ing between Herr Zenker, a solici tor residing in Potsdam, and an officer in the German uawv. Herr Zenker was shot and instantly killed. He was a prominent leader of the Anti-Semitic party. MASSACRED BYMATABRI.ES. Cape Town, Africa, March 3®. — The Matabeles of the Inseza and Fibbusi districts have revolted and massacred the white settlers, in cluding Commissary Bently. The fugitive whites are Hocking to Buluwayo and Gwelo for protec tion. A detachment of seventy-five volunteers, with a /f Maxim gm have been dispatched against the natives. SIXTY MINERS ENTOMBED. Wellington, New Zealand, March 30 —A terrible explosion of fir* damp has taken place in a mine at Brunnerton. Five persons were killed outright and sixty more are entombed, with no hope of being rescued. a joke that nearly killed. Wilmington. Del., March 30. A well-known citizen whose wife was ill called through the tele phone upon Dr. Swithin Chandler, who had been in attendance, to learn what he should do for her relief, and w as informed by a joker at the other eud of the wire, who personated the doctor to give her a glass of champagne, mix d with lemonade. He did so, and the wo man nearly died. The husband and the doctor are now on a hot hunt for the careless joker who thus came near endirg a human life. Want The War Records. The Sheriff burn ed the house, which was owned by Mrs. H. G. Goodman. The county refused to pay the money. Marshal Harbinson ar rested Frank Grindle and Frank Parker, who were present and op erating the oonceru. T. J. Carter, a youth employed by the Union News Company as a .salesman on railroad trail s, is a prisoner at police headquarters in Atlanta, ebarged with larceny. It is charged that he failed to make proper returns to his employers for goods entrusted to his care. He was arrested in Dalton ind taken ba<-k to Atlanta. Mrs. H. Adcock, of Fort Worth Texas is consulting with lawyers about proceeding to recover #lB,- 000 found buried on a farm in Houston county. Georgia, near Fort Valley, several days ago. Mrs. Adcock is positive that she is tiie lawful owner of the gold, claiming that her husband a Confederate soldier, buried it during the war and afterward being killed did not reveal the hiding place to the fam ily.
