Atlanta, Ga., Nov. 18.—The ; convention for the purpose of nominating candidates for .su preme c 'iirt judgship was called to order by Hon. Steve Clay, at noon today. Chairman Ciay made a most eloquent and feeling talk to th convention. Hou. John W. Aiken of Car tersville elected tempory chair man. and Hon. Washington Des sau of Macon permanent chair man. Hon. Bill Clifton and Col. Mark Hardin were elected secretaries. The convention got down to business and the first vote result ed in the foil iwing figures: Judge Little 224 44 Gober 159 “ Cobb 1 24 44 Hopkins R ,() “ Fish 90 “ Harris 44 Branham 44 Shannon ,4 44 Bowers • 1,4 Ma tin 44 This ballot nominated Judge Little, of Columbus. The second ballot is now (3:30 p. m ) being taken with the chances favoring Gober anc Cobb. Judge Branham was nominated by a delegate from G*inett. Atlanta, Ga., Nov. 18. —,4:50 p in) Second bal.ot resulted in no election. Gober’s lead decreased. Convention adjourned until to morrow, Branham may yet make the landing. His friends are en thusiastic. Married in Gadsden, Ala, at the residence of Col. vValter Murphree Miss Leila Elgin, of Piedmont, to Mr. Tom R. Ledbetter, of Atlanta Ga. OWENS-HILL Miss Jennie Hill was married last night to Mr. Thomas Benton Owens. The ceremony occurred at 8 o’clock at the Second Methodist church. The attendants were Miss Ad die Bogan first maid of honor and Mr. J. B. Owens, best man, and Miss Sallie Gardner and Mr. Char es T. Hill Ihe ushers were Messrs. Bailey Gordon, Alexis D. Kendrick, Will Culp per and Edwin \\ right. ' The ceremony was performed by Rev. T. A. Owens, of Taylors ville, an uncle of the groom. There were numerous and beau tiful presents. The bride is the charming and beautiful daughter of Capt. J. B. Hill. The groom is a sterling young business man of Rome The bridal couple left this morn ng for Bartow county where a re ception will be tendered them by friecds. GIRL KILLED BY A TREE Chattanooga, Tenn., Nov. 18 Miss Eliza May Stewart, aged fif teen, daughter of a prominent farmer residing near Sparta, was in the woods yesterday where her friends were cutting timber. As a tree was about to fall she was put in what was supposed to be a place of safety, but the tree swung on the stump and fell di rectly upon her, killing her in stantly . Powder in Beer Kegs Carrollton, Ga , November 18. —The hoodlums of Carrollton charged two empty beer kegs heavily with powder last night, and, after placing them in from of the reaidince of Marshal J. J. Pat terson, set fire to a long fuse., One of the kegs failed to to off. but the noise of the exploded keg aroused the people and frightened the women badly. Only a few nights ago the marshal was shot at. It seems that his appointment has aioused the ire of the toughs and blind tigers, and they have set in to run him out of town or make him resign. This evening a public meeting, was held, and the act was strong-' ly condemned by the' law abiding people of the town.
