When Cooper reached the out skirts of the city he abandoned his horse and enter'd a dense swamp on his father,s plantation, evidently intending t:> reach his father's home, whee ne doubtless j hoped he would be able to secrete himself for the present until a •tetter opportunity for escape came. Officer DecKenson was hot in pur suit. and Cooper was forced to abandon bis purpose, and he made his way hack through the swamp io the city and went to the hump if Colonel J- H. Fannin, who was a personal friend and neighbor! ot Cooper s fa her. Sometime after midnight Co rnel Fannin noticed Marshal Dick-j eDBon was in front of his reel- j deuce nrid he sskeu the officer what was wanted. When Colonel Fannin was in-j formed of the officerV mission he i Hated that Cooper was at that moment in his house, and he car-j ried the officer into the room in 1 which Cooper was s eeping. .Marshal Dickenson rushed into he room and found Cooper in lud, but not asleep. Cooper was 1 quickly arrested and was at once carried to the count y jail and locked Ina cel. Cooper sta e 1 at the tun* he was arrested that he did not know be had killed bis friend until he leached the res deuce of C »lon*l Fannin after nightfall, when he was informed that his bullet had 1 caused almost instant death. The tuner 1 ser vices were conducted from the Methodist church and all of the business houses of the city were closed out of respect to the voting man, whcTin all loved and respect ed . Mr. Dunson wa« a n in-com missioned officer of the LaGrange Light Guards, and was a member of the Knights of Pythias. Both organizations attended the funer al in a body. He was met by a lit tle fairv, whoassis'ed him in hang ing out the bricks out of which the chimney was built. Each brick was full of candy. There was 250 bricks which enabled each child to have one. A barrel of nice ap ples wero also hanced out. The services were in the basem nt which was full to overflowing, many bad to stand. There were a great many invited ; guests includin ',memo*!? from all the church l -?. Santa Claus was well personated by Mr. Gardner.
