The next day the tine thing recurred, only the unconscious pell lasted longer than before. The doctor v called in again, and after studying over < f case, decided that it was not disease of rough that ailed me after all, but nervous ouble. He gave me medicine accordingly -e hlch I took without the desired result. Another physician, one who had studied for in both France and Germany, and < .ade; nervous troubles a specialtv, was called - . I was always a heavy smoker, al thmrgh I knew that an extremely nervous person like tuyticjf should not smoke est al.' . The habit grew on me until l.found myself i smoking all the time. There with scarcely a I tmonent during thj day that I was without a cigar, cigarglfe or a pipe in ray mouth. If f 1 lifi-anie the least bit nervous nlxmt anything ■ I would smoke, and the-more I smoked the ] more nervous I would get, and then 1 would I have to smoke again. I came to be a “smoke 1{ fiend,” and the habit grew on me day by ■'day. One night jn the summer of lb! ', I ■ ) started out to make a call on a friend. I had I been feeling badly all day. I stepped into the I doctor’s office on mv.way and told him how I i felt. He examined me and told me to go home ami to bed. flu! I laughed at ips ■ i earnestness and saying that I would feel all i right again in a little while, I went and j made my call. I had felt nervous all duy II and had smoked unusually hard. I reached my friend’s house and was taken into the > | parlor where I sat down on the couch. I was engaged in telling those present of the i I peculiar feeling I had experienced all day . and of the doctor’s anxiety concerning me. i when, without a moment's warning I pitch™ head foremost on the floor. This happened ■ ' about eight o’clock in the evening. When i regained consciousmse it was i.tnrly thtea I i o’clock in the morning. 1 was still lying on ! the floor and the doctor and a trained ntpTs« • who was in the house, were working l over ■ me, while all al>out me stood my friends. I did not know what had happened, could not remember a thing concerning the .evening’s i escapade, but as soon as 1 opened my eyes the doctor told me to get up and walk i and see if I would not feel better. This J • tried to do and was astonished and alarmed to find that 1 could not move even my arms. 1 could’ move my head, bnt that was all. A grave look passed over the doctor's face when I told him this, but he and the nurse succeeded in getting me back on dhe couch, then they drew the couch into, a brdgoom where the doctor put me to bed. J slept a little, but in the morning I was no lietter. I could not even lift a linger, and all of my limbs felt numb. They gave me my break fast, and Inter on the doctor and another man came with a closed carriage into which they lifted me, and I was earned home and placed in bed. For almost six weeks I lay ; on my back unable to mave, while one could | stick a pin into me wit limit my feeling it. I j was utterly powerless to move hand or foot. Some cne had to feed me and to turn me over when 1 wanted to change my position. I remained in this state for about four weeks when 1 sent for another supply of Pink Pills. These I began to take regularly, and withiq two weeks I was not only able to use my ■ arms, bnt to walk around a little with the ■ aid of crutches. For two weeks longer my legs refused to perform their allotted duty, ; but at the end of that period I was able to discard the crutches and walk about without their aid. I continued to take Pink P la, however, and inside of three months after J was taken ill, I felt all right again.
