A well known Journalist-of La Salle, Illinois, has been making some curious obi s. rvations and enquiries during an i-xtendeib trip in the Middle-West and Eastern States, concerning the actual merits of a .much ad vertised remedy for many of the ills that flesh is heir to. Before leaving La Salle Qounty the enter prising gentleman began his search for in for.'ualiou. and he now publishes ifn account of what he found out in his own State and ia Michigan. Val|wraiso, Burroak, Bronson and Sturgis in the latter State are among the places he has visited and written up, and as he is now in the Eastern States, it is more than probable that we shall hear further from him. “ My first idea of taking up this matter,” he writes, “ was prompted by hearing John F. Hawkins, formerly a brakeman, but now employed in the yard f the Rock Island Road, tell about a wonderful cure of rheu matism effected on 'himself,'and from which, judging from his story, lie must have been exceedingly ill, broken up and unhappy.” “I was in Durand, Michigan,” Hawkins •aid, ‘‘laid up with rheumatism, and could get nothing to do me any good. Doctors were of no service to me, and I was pretty well disheartened when another railroad man asked me why I did not try Dr. Wil liams’ Pink Pilis for Pale People. I laughed at him,'but h? got so much in earnest that I jfied them, and soon all rhetimartain left me. That’s straight goods, Mr. —— he said, on seeing me smile incredulously. ‘‘They cured me right up.” “I was not by any means satisfied that this was oonclusive evidence that it was the Piak Pills that had really cured my friend, the e<-brakeman, as there is sunk a thing as * disease wearing itself out, so I determined to investigate further, and to this end called on Mr. Walter Jones, the druggist, for in formation concerning this much vaunted remedy.” ‘‘ I sell a great many of these Pink Pills/’ Mr. Jones said, in answer to my question; as to what he knew about them, ‘‘and quite a number have said they were much benefited by them. Suppose you go and see Mrs.Tlohn Fellows.” " Instead of going to see Mrs. John FeJ ilosrs, I went to see Mrs. M. J. ■the wife of a prominent business man, ns I learned that the lady was taking Pink Pills:” "I have only just so-gun to use them,”, she said, “ but my faith in them is derived from the endorsement of Mrs. William Had den, a wwll-known farmer’s wife, living six miles from here, who swears by tltem. She had general debilitv and break down, and there w no doubt but they did het *ll the good in the world and bnilt her np splen didly.” The next person visited was Mr. Charles Xpple, a good, solid business man of Seneca, who his been in that town in the drug busi ness tor seventeen years. As anything that Mr. Enple says-can be depended on, I give what he said in answer to my demand for information, exactly as I find it on my notes: ‘‘l have sold Dr. Williams’ Pink Pills for Over two years, and in that time the trade in them has greatly increased. There is a special demand for them among the families near town. There is William McElroy, who lives just north of this place, who always buys several boxes at a time, and soon comes) back and buys more. If you have time yon’l might go and see him. Then there is another man yog perhaps know, Christopher Ott, a farmer. There I rcct'iv«i information that Mrs. Lafayette Massey, the wife of a promi ,ll!’'npss man, had, been curt-d by Pink I ills and from an invalid of years standing had. become a heulHiy woman, ami so 1 took the privilege of interviewing' the lady. Iler story I give from my notes as slie told it,and it is as follows: I was an invalid for several years be | ginning with neuralgia and- nervous debility j and in addition to Hm.se troubles had the misfortune to contract rheumatism of the J meanest kjpd. ‘Physicians’ were literally in vain ’ in my case, and I was in the most | despondent and unhappy condition when one day last winter my husband brought me home a box of Dr. Williams’ Pink Pills and asked me to try them. This I did, following the directions strictly, and very soon I noticed that my rheumatism did not trouble me as it had dona, and I felt much encour- J therefore procured- a further supply ot I ink Pills, and it was not long be ! fore my rheumatism disappeared altogether. I still, however, continued the treatment and to-day my health is better than it hai been in many years. My sister-in-law, Mrs Martin Sellman, has also been taking tli« same remedy. While in Branek County I heard of an old lady, Mrs. Adalbert MH I>7 residing near Bronson, who had beer cured of a long itandfiao and aggravated css* of rheumatism, and tod* the liberty of call ing upon her to find out al] I could about it Bhe received me very kindly, and thfo- is what she had to say : “ I had been a great sufferer from rheu matism for a very long time, and could, get no relief from any mrdicine that I took. About a year ago 1 was urgently recom mended to try Dr. Williams’ Pink Pills aad did so. After the first box my rheumatism was much better and I kept on taking ihe medicine, strictly following the rules laid down, and gaining all the time. Now lam in better . health than I have enjoyed in ysars. For a person of myadvanced age, I may say I am in stood health, and shall al ways take fink Pills at the least returning I symptom of my old enemy.” AaaT had to leave Michigan for the East the next morning after my, talk with Mrs. Mills, I had no opportunity of pursuing my investigations further. What I have seen and heard, however, leads me to believe that my friend, the ex-brakeman, was not far wrong in attributing his cure to Dr. Wil liams’ Pink Pills.'
