Campaign Lies
The Statement appearing in The Herald of
last week under the heading "NAILING BARE
FALSEHOODS" and purporting to quote the
undersigned as making a statement in Federal
Court in Birmingham in 1944 "that no Negro
was entitled to more than $l.OO a day" is utter
ly false. I never made such a statement in Birm
ingham or elsewhere in my life and who ever
claims I did is a liar.
The statement made in the same scurrilous
and libelous article that the CPL leaders met in
a hotel room with Eugene Talmadge and agreed
to support his program next Spring is also false.
Everyone is familiar with the Platform upon
which I and my two colleagues of the CPL were
elected to the State Legislature, and all three of
us are going to stand by that platform to the
letter. Any statement made by any person to
the contrary is utterly false and is made only to
mislead he peopleJn this campaign. We stand
exactly where we stood in the July campaign
when 90 percent of the Negro Voters voted for
us and we shall continue to stand by our plat
form upon which we were elected.

Member-elect State Legislature.
