Glover has been chosen by her colleagues at Tomp kins Junior High School as “Teach er of the year” for the year 1962- 63. She is a member of the English Department and works diligently with the total school program. She serves as chairman of the In-Ser vice Evaluation Committee, PTA Study Committee, Attendance Co ordinators, and is a member of the following committees: Steering Committee, Reading Committee and Social Committee. Officers elected for 1963 were: president, Mrs. Alma Middle ton; vice president, Mrs. Margaret Garvin; secretary, Mrs. Sadie Wil liams; asst, secretary, Mrs. Neota Ward; financial secretary, Mrs. Ernestine Jones; treasurer, Mrs. Willie Mae Myrick; chairman, Mrs. Rose Bradham; clerk of order, Mrs. Virgie M. Johnson; chaplain, Mrs. Bettye Lloyd. The club will have a variety supper on February 16 at the home of Mrs. Sadie Williams, 717 Fell wood Homes. Mrs. V. M. John son, reporter. mg. She holds membership in the fol lowing organizations: National Education Association, American Education Associtaion, Georgia Teachers and Education Associa tion, Chatham County Teachers Association, Parent-Teacher As sociaiton, and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. She is a communicant and active with the Connors Temple Baptist Church. Mrs. Glover is a friendly and vivacious young lady with unusual charm and poise. She likes peo ple and always creates for every one a most congenial atmosphere. She is the wife of Roland Glover, Jr. and mother of a son, Kenneth, age 7. Anderson has been selected as the teacher of the year by her co-workers at the Frank W. Spencer School. Miss Anderson, a “Star” first grade teacher at the school is faculty chairman for the year 1962-63. She is most popular with parents and teachers at the school and in the community. Her dynamic leadership ability is acclaimed by her principal and the teachers at Spencer. Under her leadership the faculty has just completed a successful workshop in-service program based on the New Arithmetic State Guide. She has been chairman of summer round-up program at the school for the past several years, and the program is always acclaimed out standing. Her classroom is typi cal of the attractive and conducive atmosphere providing meaningful experiences for the boys and girls who love her dearly. She has been selected on several occasions as supervising teacher, and demon stration for observation teacher for students at Savannah State College. Miss Anderson, is a graduate of Savannah State College, and is now working towards the Master’s degree at South Carolina State College. In educational circles she is a mmeber of the NEA, ATA. GTA, and the C.C.T.A. She is a member of the lota Phi Lambda Sorority and is a communicant of Bethel A. M. E. Church. At the church she is program chairman of the Young Women’s Auxilary. Miss Anderson is also active in civic and fraternal affairs. She is an active member of Prince Hall Chapter No. 258 OES in which she once held office, and she is a member of the Y. W. C. Johnson Captures Outstanding Award The Johnson EXPLORER, stu dent newspaper, and the ATOM SMASHER, year book, won Ist place at the 12th Annual Press r nstitute held at Savannah State Allege on February 7th and Sth. The Staff of the Savannah Morn ing News served as judges and rated these publications on the basis of (1) content, (2) lay out. (3) features, (4) illustrations and (5) over-all appearance. The editor of the EXPLORER is a junior, Linda Williams. The advisors are Miss Ada L. Simp kins and Mrs. Mamie Hart. The editor of the year book is a senior, Saralyn Thomas, and chief ad visor is Mrs. Christine W. Robin son. The Johnson Thespians were awarded first place on the re gional level and second place on the State level for their partici pation in the one-act play contest which was sponsored by the Geor gia Inter-scholastic Association. The cast under the direction of Mrs. D. P. Little, chairman of the dramatics committee, presented a one-act drama entitled “Golden Slippers.” Members of the cast included Johnny Alexander who received the “Best Actor’s Award,” Barbara Sherman who was given the consolation award, Antionette Battiste and Christine McCul lough. She was escorted by Mr. Wil liam Simmons and was greeted at the door with the group singing “Happy Birthday” to her. The group enjoyed short sayings by various ones after which games were played. The table was lavished with food. A. large beautiful birthday cake decorated with American red roses served as the centerpiece. Bowls of ruby red punch with cocktail made the evening a delightful one. Serving as hostesses were Mrs. Albertha Jackson and Mrs. Betty Duncan. Serving the guests were Mrs. Delores Mars and Mrs. Jean ette Baker. Enjoying the party were Misses Delores Washington, Olethia Wil liams, Doris Paschal, Marionett Garris, Pauline Jordan, Veronica Rodney, Jacqueline Williams, Beu lah Paschal, Evelyn Davis, Caro lyn Riley and Carlotta Williams; Mmes.
