appreciation services for the pas
tor, Rev. H. F. Grant, on Friday,
December 13 and Sunday, Decem
ber 15. The public is invited
to share in these services which
will be indicative of the high es
teem in which Pastor Grant is
held by the members of his congre
gation and by his many friends.

taught in the public school sys

100m teacher and principal. She is
currently principal of George W.
J. Deßenne School. She is a com
munieant of the above church and
serves as chairman of the Bertha
Richards Guild.

Sunday School at Bethel AME
Church began at 9:50 a.m. The
assistant superintendent, Harold
McArthur, presided.
Plans were made for the
Christmas program.
The minister, Rev. A. B. Wil
son, brought inspiring messages
throughout the day.
The entire membership is very
happy to greet the Rev. A. B.
Wilson and his family. Rev. Wil
son has been reappointed to the
pastorate of Bethel AME Church.
Teachers meeting will be held
on Friday night December 13, at
7:00 p.m. All teachers are urged
to be present.
Choir No. 2 will present a
Christmas program Sunday after
noon, December 22 at 4 p.m.
On Christmas morning at 5:00
a.m. the Missionary Society will
present a play, “Shadows of the
Manger.” The public is invited
to attend both programs.
The congregation is asked to
remember the sick of the church.

Church
On Tuesday, November 26, a
representative group of men of St.
Paul Church met for the purpose
of organizing a Methodist Men’s
Club. The following officers were
elected: Mr. David Jones, presi
dent; Robert Becton, vice presi
dent; S. R. Jones, secretary; Lo
renzo Magwood, assistant secre
tary; William Robinson, treasurer;
Ben Robinson, chaplain; Leroy
Simmons, sergeant-at-arms; J. C.
Williams, reporter.
The focal point of this organ
ization is united brotherhood and
service to the church as individ
uals, and as a group. The Meth
odist Men’s Club will meet on
the second and fourth Tuesday
nights at the church. All men of
the church are urged to join in
the fulfilment of the purpose of
the Methodist Men’s Club.

Services at Second Arnold Bap
tist Church were well attended on
Sunday. Sunday School began

dent, and teachers in charge.
The morning and night messages
were delivered by the pastor. Rev.
George Dingle, and music was ren
dered by the Senior Choir under
the direction of Dea. I. A. Sim
mons.
At 7:30 P.M. the BTU will pre
sent a panel discussion on the
theme: “Forgiven Are Forgiving”.
Panelists will be Mrs. Viola May
nor, Mrs. Josie M. Mathis, Mrs.
Janie Wright and Miss Betty Jean
Simmons. The public is invited
to come and hear these outstand
ing ladies.

The Ukranian Christmas Carol
of the Bells by Peter J. Wilhousky
will ring in the Christmas with
all of its gaiety and warmth to
the young and old.
The musical, under the direction
of Mrs. Virginia R. Blalock, will
begin at 7:30 p.m., December 22.
The accompanists will be Mrs.
Alzata Scott at the organ and
Miss Angele Sampson at the piano.
First Tabernacle
Baptist Church
General Supt. S. E. White began
the 36th year as Sunday School
Superintendent after election on
last Sunday, congratulations to
all having been elected except
him and the splendid assistants,
three, whose work does not per
mit continued participation.
Youth will serve during this
Sunday in varied capacities, for

: of the most beloved members, Mrs.
■ Rosa Hawkins, who was in Sunday
School when she suffered an at
|tack, was rushed to the hospital
and expired within minutes. She
was devoted to her Church and
served for many years. At this
writing arrangements are incom
plete.
Sorrowful sermons were preach
ed by Pastor Lane last Sunday,
Mr. Solomon Smith united with us.
Congratulations are in order for
Miss Betty White and Mr. James
B. Smith whose wedding plans
have been announced by Mr. and
Mrs. James White, parents of the
bride, the date is Dec. 15, at 3:30.
The reception will be held in the
lower auditorium following the
ceremony.
There are many still shut-in for
which our prayers are made.

Sunday was Communion day at
Mt. Mariah AME Church begin
ning with Sunday School at the
usual hout' of 10:00 o’clock with
the superintendent, Miss Neomi
Dasher in charge. A fine review
of the lesson was given by Miss
Freddie Hurst; also Rev. J. A.
Aikins.
Choir No. 1 rendered music at
the 11:30 service. The visiting
preacher, Rev. Montgomery of
Beltha AME Church, Arco, Ga.
preached a wonderful sermon that
made everyone burn within.
Again at 6:30 p.m. Rev. Mont
gomery preached a soul stirring
sermon. The spirit ran high. Visit
ing preacher was Rev. Adkins, of
Gardi, Ga.
All members sympathize with
Rev. J. A. Aikins in the passing of
his brother, and are pleased that
his body was recovered. Rev. J.
A. Aikins is pastor.
Mrs. Hulda F. Browm departed
this life on Wednesday morning,
December 4, 1963. She leaves to
mourn a son, two sisters, a son
in-law, a daughter-in-law. three
grandchildren, three great grand
children, nieces and nephews and
many other relatives and friends.
Rev. J. A. Aikins and Rev. Mont
gomery were dinner guests of Mr.
and Mrs. John L. Wright on Sun
day.
