IN MEMORIAM
In loving memory of my husband,
MR. JOHN DOUSE,
Who passed away Dec. 13, 1962.
Just when life was sweetest
And we would have lived our best
The gates of heaven opened
And he entered into rest.
The years may wipe out many
things
But this they’ll wipe out never
The memory of those happy days
Which we have spent together.
Sadly missed by wife,
MRS. AGNES DOUSE.

DEBUTANTES MAKE BOW

Portia Williams, Alice Murray,
Lillie Kyles. The table was com
plemented by cake squares and a
floral arrangement in black and
gold of the AOA. After enjoying
the amiable companionship of
friends and escorts, the dates were
then escorted to the Flamingo
ballroom for the long awaited pre
sentation.
Mr. Nelson R. Freeman, presi
dent of Beta Phi Lambda Chap
ter of Alpha Phi Alpha Frater
nity, welcomed parents and the
many guests who filled the large
ballroom. He then introduced Mr.
Willie Waddell, who presented the
debutantes of the evening. An
unexpected feature of the presen
tation was the crowning of “Miss
Congeniality,” Miss Brenda T rue
dell. “Miss Congeniality” was
chosen on the afternoon of the ba 1 l
by the “Debs” themselves. Until
the eleventh hour, no one but the
debutante committee knew who
“Miss Congeniality” Avas.
Following the presenta
tion, against a background of
black and gold and centered by a
gyre from which extended black
and gold streamers, the debs and
■ their escorts danced a French
minuet. At the completion of the
minuet the fathers claimed their
daughters for the first part of the
debutante waltz, after which they
returned to the escorts for a mem
orable evening of dancing to the
music of rhe Claude Roberts Com
bo.
Congratulations were received
by the debutantes from the many
guests who passed through the re
ceiving line. The matrons were:
Mesdames Clarence Smith, Rich
ard Moore, Benjamin Lewis, and
Robert Tindal.
After the ball, the gowns were
hung up and the dress of the
morning was casual for the post
cotillion breakfast held at Chez
Gourmet. In this setting, the debs
spoke regretfully to those ■who
would be leaving later in the morn
ing so that they could make their
classes Fiiday. Those w'ho re
mained were the guests at a lunch
eon Friday, also at Chez Goumet.
The relaxed atmosphere of Chez
Gourmet and the splendid lunch
prepared by Mrs. McCray was en
joyed immensely by the debs and
members of the alphabettes. Mrs.
Clarence Smith. Mrs. Willie Wad
dell. Mrs. Launey F. Roberts, Jr.,
served as hostesses.
We are always happy to thank
and commend Mrs. T. J. Polite
for her untiring efforts in in
structing the young ladies and
their escorts in the minuet.
The next item on the debutante
calender will be a party given in
honor of Miss Virginia Williams
by Mrs. Robert Tindal.
