Sl)c Sn-lUcchln Constitutionalist.
BY JAMP:S GARDNER, JR
[Concluded from Fourth pa iff.]
the friends of public virtue, equality and Consti
tutional Government to confront the wily and
unprincipled coalition.
Resolved. That the Hon. Charles J. McDonald
is precisely the man for the crisis—honest, firm
and cool—sensible of what has been already lost,
and of how much may' yet be saved.
Resolved. That we hold the opinions ot our
nominee respecting the Surrender to be en
lightened and sound—his resolution to abide the
solemn decision of the people of this State to take
no redress for past wrongs, to be patriotic, and
deferential to their sovereignty —and his views
of the relative powers, as well as duties, of the
State and Federal Governments to be of the old
Republican School.
Resolved, That we revere the Union formed by
our fathers, as becomes the beneficiaries of their
labors, and will, at all times, evince the sincerity
of our attachment, both by a prompt and cheerful
support to our several governments in the wise
and impartial exercise of their just powers, and
by an unceasing opposition to the assaults open
or covest, which ambition, or treachery, or venality
may make upon the beautifully adjusted system
of checks and balances which their wisdom has
devised for the better security of the Freedom, the
Independence, and the Sovereignty achieved by
their prowess for the people of each of these
States.
Resolved, That we regard the doctrine, which
strips these States of every effective peaceful
remedy tor any and every wrong that may be in
flicted upon their citizens through the perversion
or usurpation of powers, not only as Federal in
fts character, and consolidating in its tendency,
lut also as a libel on the memory of the heroes
Ind sages of the revolution, imputing to them, as
t does, a gross fraud in palming on the woild.
under the semblance of free government, a cun- !
ningly devised scheme to entrap the unwary in
the meshes of despotism virtualy reproaching !
them with a criminal omission of their duty to
provide projier safeguards for liberty, to erect a
harrier to the approaches of power, and to supply
the weak and virtuous with suitable defences
against the strong and vicious, virtualy reproach
ing them with the stupendous folly of leaving
tlie adjustment of differences between suffering
minorities and unscrupulous majorities to the ar
bitrament of the sword, the aggrieved to take all
the hazards of rebellion, and to suffer the penal
ties for treason, if more unsuccessful than them
selves. when driven to a like resort to cut the
knot which liound them in thralldom to Brittain.
Resolved, That those patriots have not restored
ns to the condition in which British oppression
put them; but have left us to enjoy what their
stout hearts and brawny arms acquired, and we
see in the republican doctrines of State sovereign
ty, resei veil and delegated powers, and constitu
tional limitations, embodying the most peaceful
sureties, neither an express or implied reflection
on their intelligence, honesty, or patriotism.
Resolved, That the principles contended for by
Mr. Cobb, depriving us of all remedy for the op
pressions which may lie laid on us, save such as
may turn up in the fury and discord of civil war,
despoiling us of long cherished constitutional guar
anties and reserved rights, and throwing our in
stitutions for maintenance upon the forbearance
and tender mercy of their deadliest foe, are not
only wicked, unsound and unwise, but if adopted
by the people of the South, will prove suicidal.
Risolvtd. That we highly appreciate the course
pursued by the Hon. Joseph W. Jackson in the
! late Congress, and we will prove our confidence
| in his firmness, integrity and faithfulness to his
i trust, by the devotion of our best energies to his
I re-election to the post of representative.
Resolved, That we cannot speak in terms too
I commendatory of the services of Senator Berrien
I in the last struggle for our rights—and we trust
| Ihe sell respect of Georgia secures her against the
I machinations of the “Southern men with Nor
m * l‘ el ' n principles' 5 about whom his ermine would

Texas.—The Galveston News of the sth says:
" There can be very little doubt that this year's
crop ol Cotton will come to market earlier than
usual. The dry season has caused it to mature
and the bolls to open rapidly. Many of our plan
ters commenced picking by the 20th of July,
and some earlier.' 5
The Galveston Civilian of the Bth says:—
“ Cotton picking is now pretty generally in pro
gress in Texas, and the prospect for a good ave
rage crop very fair.”
The LaGrange Monument of the 6th says:—
“ We noticed early in the summer that there was
a fine prospect of a mast in some parts of Fayette
county. We hear, however, that the protracted
drought has blasted the young acorns. Pecans
are still more susceptible of injury from this
cause. As corn crops are short, a failure of a
rnast would be seriously felt by our citizens.’ 5

' This preparation has now borne the test of over 14
’ years experience, since its first introduction to public fa
vor, during which time numerous imitations have sprung
■ into existence, founding their claims to the confidence
> of the community on the curative powers contained in
Sarsaparilla Root, the great reputation and extended ns©
t w h‘Ch has been mainly attributable to the many
wonderful cures effected by the use of this preparation.
While Sarsaparilla Root forms an important part of Its
* combination, it is, at the same time, compounded with
■ other vegetable remedies of great power, and it is in the
r peculiar combination and scientific manner of its prepa
ration, that its remarkable success in the cure of disejMU*
. depends. Other prejairations imitate it in the style of
putting up. and bearing the name of one of its ingredi
ents. and here ends their resemblance to it. Those
needing a remedy and purifier like this, are requested to
» uotc where this difference exists, and in making choice of
what they will use, not to take any other but that one
Y entitled to their confidence, from the long list of cures
it has effected on living witnesses, whose testimonial©
and residences have been published, and who are still
bearing daily testimony to its worth . The whole histo
ry of medicine has scarcely furnished a parallel to the
numerous and remarkable cures effected by its use. and
i what it has effected once it can effect again.

Inflammatory Rheumatism Gured.
Bardstown, Ky., July 10, 1849.
Messrs. Sands —Gentlemen: It is my duty to commu
nicate facts in relation to the beneficial effects of your
Sarsaparilla. My wife was afflicted with inflammation
3 and soreness of the stomach of the worst character; .her
- limbs and chest were much swollen; she had constant
headache, and last spring was attacked severely with in
t flammatory rheumatism. The lest medical aid we could
obtain afforded only momentary relief; and while in this
situation, she heard of the many remarkabio cures ef
fected by the use of Sands' Sarsaparilla, and commenced
its use, which produced instant relief, and less than .»ix
b bottles entirely removed all the dropsical swelling and
j every other inflammatory symptou, restoring her per
feet health. 1 send this statement as an let of justice,
believing it to be my duty to encourage the suffering
portion of the human family to use Sand’s Sarsaparilla
which I believe has nojparallel in the catalogue of me
dicine. With feelings of lasting gratitude, I remain
your friend. SAMUEL P. HARGER.
Read the following from
New-Ori.eans, Nov 12,1849.
i Messrs. Sands— Gentlemen: I take the liberty of
5 sending you a letter which may lie of importance to
1 those who are suffering as I have done. I received great
benefit from your Sarsaparilla, having been cured of x
malady after suffering six years. I hereby cheerfully
certify to the good effect of your medicine, and I hop©
God will reward you for all the good you have done. A
b chronic congh had tormented ine day and night, and re
peated attacks of fever induced me to believe that 1
should die with Consumption. One day,/ bile suffering
a violent attack of burning fever, a friend wursuafledm*
to try your incomparable medicine, but tot >ll the truth,
I had no confidence in it. I finally purcha ied a bottle,
and by its use and the help of God, I was restored to
better health than I had enjoyed for six years. I can
- not but bless the author of this admirable medicine
1 With great respect, I am. gentlemen.
Your obedient servant.

4 * Truth is stranger than fiction.''
New Durham, NT. J.. June 30, 1849.
Messrs. Sands —Gentlemen: My wife suffered with a
distress and burning in her chest for many years, and
my daughter was afflicted from her birth with a humor
in her blood. We consulted various physicians, and
tried numerous remedies, without much benefit, until
we heard, through Rev. Thomas Davis, of the great me
dicinal value of Sands' Sarsaparilla. On his recoin
niendntion my wife and daughter decided on trying it
and soon experienced permanent benefit. My daughter’ll
skin assumed a new appearance entirely; from being
rough, hard and scaly, it became smooth and soft. My
wife’s sufferings are almost gone, and its use a short
time longer, it is my firm belief, will produce a perfect
cure. Yours, with respect,
n . O S HENDRICKSON.
