ERIDAY MORNING. AUG. 7,1868
For President:
HORATIO SEYMOUR,
OF MEW YORK.
For Vice-President:
FRANCIS P. BLAIR,
OF MISSOURI.
MR. VALLANDIGHAM'S SPEEOH-
We surrender a‘ large portion of our
space to an admirable speech recently de
livered by Hon. Cf.Fvi knt L. Vali.an
dioham. It is a masterly exposition of Dem
ocratic doctrine and Radical depravity.
While the schemes and conspiracies of our
adversaries are unmasked and chastised
with the vigor and pungency characteristic
of the Ohio statesman, he carefully avoids
the slang-whanging and hyperbolical viru
lence of those who imagine that tlie inspi
ration of the orator resides in the tar-buck
et or the muck-barrel. Those who expect
from Mr. Vallandihham either pyrotech
nics or vulgar tirade will be disappointed.
Like Mr. Pendleton, he enters into this
campaign to discuss principles from a
serene and lofty stand-point. His speech is
sound in logic, fair in statement, choice in
expression and wholesome in temper. It
will richly repay perusal, and, as one of the
rirst and best Intellectual fruits of the sea
sou, we offer it to our readers.
A TRULY LOYAL MAN.
A correspondent of the Atlanta Intelli
yeneer, under the signature of Veritas,
furnishes a pen-portrait of one H. K. Mc-
Cay, a trooly loil man and petitioner for a
seat ou the Supreme Bench of Georgia.
Look at him:
“As General H. K. McCay is a hanger on at
Atlanta, seeking a place on the Supreme Bench
of Georgia, I think it right and proper that
Governor Bullock, the appointing power, and
that the Senate, the confirming power, should
know in advance the extreme fanatical views of
General McCay. He said at last Lee Superior
Court, in the presence of Mrs. Ann Mercer,
Adam R. Brown, Esq., of Americus, and several
others, that Moses married a negress , and that
if an v one would take the pains to trace the
genealogy of Jesus Christ, they would see He
descended from a negro; that the neqro race was
afjATior physically to the white, and that
wfen they became as well educated and culti
vated ns the white race, they would tower
as high above the white race intellectually
as the white race is now above them. Mr.
Brown states to your correspondent that he
will make oath at. any time to the above facts.
Mrfl. Mercer is a very pious lady, and told Mr.
Brown next morning tlmt Mr. McCay was a
talented man, and that his remarks the night
before bad caused her a sleepless night. I have
conversed with the gentleman of deservedly
high character in this city, to whom Mr. Brown
referred me as being present at the time when
M'vCCay made these statements, and asked
JM Tgentlt/man, ‘ Were you present; and did
B%bear Mr. McCay say so ?’ The reply was,
McCay) will not deny it.’ Can it be pos
that a Radical Governor and a Radical
Benate of Georgia will honor with tho highest
judicial place known to our constitution and
laws, such a fanatic, miscegenator and trnduccr
of liis own and elevator of the African race ?
If so, let, them be ‘ Anathema Maranatha.’
ELECTION OF ST&TE OFFICERS.
The telegraph informs us that, from bcc
reta vy of .State to State Printer, tho Radi
cals lnjve made a clean sweep of many of
the offices. It is significantly reported that
« thirteen l)et>'' ocra^'1 were ‘ absent An ex
amination of the- balloting will show that
this delinquency <b‘ the aforesaid thirteen
was the cause of the Radical success.
Our special telegram explains the ab
sence of some of these membors. It was
their bad luck to be on board the train that
broke down when rn route to Atlanta. It
would be a good policy for Democrats
to stick to their posts and avoid mortifying
contingencies.
GRANT THUNDER.
Tbe “ Governor ” of Louisiana is deter
termined to do his part for Grant and
Coi.fax. He has sent a batch of “ Rebel
horrors ” to Washington, and Congress
will, at its September meeting, have a
splendid pretext to pass some devilment
for the “ better protection of loyal men ” in
the Pelican State. The “Governor” has
had his say. We expect a prompt denial
by the Democratic journals.
KENTUCKY.
Everybody anticipated a Democratic vic
tory in the Kentucky election. From all
accounts, it is a regular crusher. In Louis
ville, the gain on the hist election is nearly
ft,ooo, and the Journal is confident of a
majority of 100,000 iu the State. Seymour
and Blair will have an easy time of it in
Old Kentucky.
And Still They Come! —'The Cleveland
Pluindealer says the Hon. Richard Gregg,
of Aurora, Dearborn county, a life long
Whig, and a Republican at the organiza
tion of that party, came out in a public
speech in Aurora last week for Seymour
and Blair.
Another “ Traitor.” —The Warrick
Herald is greatly disgusted because. Mr. C.
D. Robertson, hitherto a strong Republi
can, has renounced that party, and made a
speech at a Seymour ratification meeting in
Boonville a few days since. It calls him a
“ traitor, renegade,” &c.
f New Albany ledger.
The Dayton Ledger says Charles Morris,
of Troy, Ohio, one of the leadiug lawyers of
Miami county, ancl hitherto an active Re
publican, has publicly announced his in
tention to support Seymour and Blair.—
Quite a number of other prominent Repub
licans in Miami county have renounced
their former faith, and the Democracy there
are even confident of being able to carry
the county this fall.
The Radicals held a grand barbecue at Little
Root Arkansas, last Thursday and Friday.—
There were three thousand negroes present,
and about one. hundred white men. It was
characterized by the usual mob spirit of their
brings, and wound up on Friday night with
a riot. A soldier' was killed by a negro, in cold
blood. The aflair will doubtless lead to some
thing serious. jf. ’

As soon as an article purporting to be of utility has been
tested, and its merits endorsed by public opinion, unprln

by counterfeiting and substituting a spurlouN for tire gen

of pills, powders, Ac., was given for all diseases ol the
stomach and liver, while quinine was freely administered
for the chills. At length HOSTKTTEII’S STOMACH
