' " TnE Twenty-Sixth of April.— The day for the decoration of the graves of the Con federate dead, inaugurated so touchingly and beautifully last year, draws near. We .learn that the l-adics at their meeting, on Saturday last, selected the Rev. Mr, McDon nell, of the Methodist Church, to deliver the address, and Rev. Dr. CoopeU, of the baptist Church, to officiate on the occasion. Other arrangoment have been made of which due notice will be given. New Temperance Society.—A Council of the Friends of Temperance, was organ ized in this'place, on Saturday last, under a Charter granted by the Grand .Council of the State of Virginia. The name of it is “Price Council, No. 2,” in honor of our es teemed fellow townsman, Col. J. V. Price, The following are the names of its officers: Jons V. Price, President, pR. IV. A. The resgular meetings are held every Monday night. Dha 'pointed— The failure of “Bbick” Pomeroy, to make liis appearance and ad dress our citizens yesterday, as was announc ed lie would, through the Rrpublicen, disap pointed quite a number of our citizens, both in the city and county', who were anxious to hear him. Especially do we regret it the more, on account of our fair friends, who robed themselves in their fjnery and were awaiting the arrival of the expected hour when “Brick” would make his appearance. The pupils of several of our schools had a short recess in honor of the occasion. We hope that “Brick,”, will be more punctual in his next' appointment to address our citizens. Had he have known how anxious they all were to hear him, he aertainly would have teen with us, and if our citizens had only thought for one moment that it was tlie ilflyof April, so many of them would not have been “taken in” as there were. He has also a large lot of willow ware, paints, oils, dye stuff's, and in fact, everyibing suitable for the Mechanic, Farmer or the Family Circle. llis goods are sold on as reasonable terms as they can be purchased in Macon or Savannah. We see no reason why those needing such arti cles should go elsewhere to procure them, when they can be purchased as cheap here as any other market in the State.
