The Daily Loyal Georgian. AUDI NTA. G -H'l.V 36, 1867. The weather continncft warm—-j’-tst such, if we are able to judge rightly, as is wanted to perfect the crops. Mr. John E. Maemurphy. The funeral of Mr. J. E. Maemurphy, late Sujierintemlent of the Georgia Railroad Car Factory, took place from the Catholic Church, in this city, on Wednesday last. Father Hirin’ con ducted the services at the Church. A large cortc</c followed the remain* to the grave. The mechanics of the city, white and colored, were formed in the procession, and their silent tread told the sentiments of their souls while ten dering this last tribute of respect to one of their number whom they have loug known, and known only to love. In the death of Mr. Maemurphy the city has lost a gentleman of good social qualities and an ornament from if list of mechanics. Below we give a sketch of Mr. M., furnished by a brother workman. Our true friend, John E. Maemur phy, is no more. lie died in this city on the ‘23d inst., after a painful illness of si\ weeks, from neuralgia in the. I head. Although for some time he hid been considered beyond recovery, his exit was not looked for s., soon. An attack of appople.xy, experienced a lit- j tie while before bis death, so si tinned his already prostrated form as to make his restoration hopelcs- and his death sooner to be looked lor. lie rapidly failed during Tuesday last, and at 7 o’clock I’. M. of that day, while, as it was supposed, quietly resting, his spirit passed away. So easy was his death that his friends, watching by bis side, hardly knew the precise time when life was no more. Mr. M. was born in this city in 1825, and was, therefore, forty-two years of age when he died. At the age of six-: teen lie entered the Georgia Railroad j workshop in the capacity of an appfvn- i tiee. Following a uniform course in business, be realized what such a course always brings —promotion and honor. From a master mechanic he grew to be- foreman, a position he filled lor several years. lie afterwards became Superintendent of the Augusta M;v j tfujiie Works, and, at the time of his j death, was Superintendent ol the Geor gia Railroad Gar Factory. Ife was enterprising, faithful, kind. > His promises were always made good, and his judgment, tendered ,impar tially. His remaining comrades will 'hold in tender memory his name and generous traits of character. At a meeting, held Wednesday last, ■ of the colored workmen at the Georgia Railroad Car Factory, the following resolutions were adopted: Wheubas, Providence, in llis iiiMorutulilo dedans, lias remove;! from our midst our ju ire i raftsman and ivspci ted Superintend ent, Mr. John K. R,.:/lru! , Tie.i we bow humbly to this stroke of Providence, entertainin'; the belief that, though to our seeming disadvantage, 77 ref..0.7/a (loo*' anel f> liunihcd, That in Mr. Mnemurpliy we hav,; always found a disinterested friend, an oblig ing; generous foreman, and an earnest weil tvisher of nil; that we testify in sinc.aity to i.is manly and efficient business traits which showed themselves in the high-minded ini jiartWiiy indicated in one of hi? nttcranci*, am’to the spirit of which he carefully ad hered —"No friends to reward, no em-mies U) punish." jtexolrtrf.
