Augrusta Market, Dec 6.
< t) l I OX.—Our market opened on Wednesday with
a good demand, and the prices quoted in our last review
were freely paid for all offered. The letters per Cam
bria, not being as favorable as the telegraphic reports, of
the Liverpool market, caused a pause on Thursday, and j
during that day, Friday and Saturday, the business trans- j
acted was limited, buyers refusing to operate unless at
a concession, which holders refused to submit to unless J
compelled by orders to sell. On Monday there was a
better fee'ing, which continued yesterday, and for the
amount offering the sales were to a fair extent, and gen
erally within the ranee of onrquotations. The receipts
of the month of November reach about 34,000 ha’es,and
the stork on hand on the Ist lust., as will be seen was
38,319 bales against 20,745 last year. The sales this
week sum up 3,341 bales, as follow.- 2 at 4j, 2 at 4j(, 38 j
at 4, {, 37 at 4j, 156 at4j, 91 at 4 13-16, 88 at 4J, 28 at
4 15-16, 392 at 5, 152 at 5 1-16, 707 at s}, 295 at 5 3-16,
4'*B at s\, 467 at 5 5-16, 245 at SJ, 55 at 5 7-16, 48 uts.\,
and 9 bales 5? cents. We continue the quotations of last
week, but would remark, that though holders, generally,
are firm at them, purchasers do not appear anxious to
operate. If any decline has been submitted to during
the week, it has been on the lower grades.

jyy- Our country friends will notice that our remarks,
from the head il Groceries,” are based on wholiiue
prices, and that rates are higher in every instance for
small transactions, or such us are generally embraced in
fillin'! small country orders. For instance, if we notice
the sale of 100 or 1,000 sacks of Sa't from the wharf, at
§1,50, they must not expect to purchase by the sack
from the merchant at the same price —he generally has
to pay cash or give short time paper, and it will cost him
all of ./fee cents per sack to get it from the wharf to his
store.
GROCERIES.—There has been a good demand this
week for Groceries, and the business transacted has
been to a fair extent, both with town and country’ Mer
chants. There is no scarcity of any article that we
hear of, and at the present time the stocks of our Mer
chants were never better.
SALT.—Further additions have been made this week
to the stork on band. Sales have been reported to ns
of about 10)0 sacks on wharf, at a price not made pub
lic, From stores, sack Sa't is retailing at $1,69 per sack.
BAGGING.—There continues a fair demand for this
article, and the stock is getting light. From stores Ken
tucky is sel ine at 18 ami Gunny at 20 cents.
RALE ROPE. —The stock is still light—retailing from
stores at 101 cents for Kentucky.
CORN—The demand for this article is still confined
to home wants, ",id the sales making are at 40 cents for
old, and 13 for new, without bags. Good new while, if
put on the market, would no doubt bring 45 cents. j
FLOUR.—The better brands are still scarce, and sell I
readily at 51 to 6 per bid., while common is plenty and
unsaleable.
B AGON—The supply is on the decrease, and prices
have improved this week. The sales making are in
small parcels—Sides 51 a 6, Shoulders 4* to 4s, and
Hams at 51 to 8 cents, according to quality.
LARD. —Fair supply on band, with hut a limited de- i
„iaml. The few sales making have been at to 7J !
cents.
t OFFKE. —L~rge stock on hand of all descriptions.
SPIRITS. —Market well supplied with all descrip
tions, and the sales made within the range of our quo
tations.
SUGAR. —Stock of all kinds good. VVe would refer
to quotations for prices.
EXCHANGE. —The banks have reduced their rates
for Northern Exchange, and are now selling sight checks
on New York at \ per cent prein.
FREIGHTS. —The River is nowin good boating or
der with every prospect of continuing so for the re
mainder of the season. Cotton is oftering freely for !
shipment to Savannah at 5b cents per bale. To Charles
ton not much offering—rate $1 j>er bale.
CHARLESTON, Dec. o. — Cotton. — The trans- i
actions in Cotton yesterday reached xIOOO bales, at
extremes ranging from 4jJ to fyc. Purchasers
were unable to do as well as on Saturday, particu
larly in the better qualities.
Kae. —There was a good demand lor Rice yes- I
terday, and upwards of RfH) tierces changed hands
at prices ranging from 2§ to S3J per hundred.—
The bulk of the sales from to C 3. Prices in
the lower qualities if any thing, were rather more
lull than on Saturday.
SAVANNAH, Dec. I.— Cotton. —ln the Cotton
market on Saturday prices were rather irregular,
and ive heard of some >ales at a slight decline on
previous rates. The sales of the day were 490
bales at oj as» cents. Roth buyers and sellers are
anxious to get another steamer’s accounts before
operating largely.
3 MOBILE, Nov. 30. Cotton. —The sales of to
day reach about 1530 bales, prices remaining a
t ou } esterday —market linn. Middlings to good
middlings a s'| cents.
Freights. —A bark has been taken up to-day for
80-ton at A cent.
F cchange. —There ha- been a fair demand, with
no alteration in rates.
1 NEW ORLEANS. NOW 29.— Colton. —The
week opm m! with an animated demand, and the
e »ale- on Monday reached 8500 bales. On Tuesday
morning the accounts by the Cambria, which
r steamer left on the 11th in-t.. were received
9 showing a linn market without however bringing
any advance since the sailing of the Acadia.—
I bese aih ices disappointed the expectations of
main , and the market was in consequence les- ac
tive, the sales being confined to 2600 bales. This
morning the letters by the Acadia came to hand,
w liich although confirming the advance of
brought no higher limit- for purchases. The
demand was in consequence limited, and the sales
were confined to 2300 bales without any r change
in prices, though lactors are willing sellers, but
English and Northern buyers keep out of the mar
ket. The sale- of the three day s sura up 13,500
bales, and the purchases hare been chiefly for
English account. We quote :
