More Home Testimony. NO 48 UNION STREET, > Boston, April 18, 1848 y 1I R. SETH W. FOWLE : —Sir —A sense IT 1 ol gratitude to you, and of duty to the pub lic, prompts me to make the following statement, which, if of any service to you, is entirely- at your disposal. It may- have the effect to induce some other sufferers to make a trial of your invaluable medicine, which 1 can truly say, has literally snatched me from the grave to which 1 was fast hastening. Last July I was attacked by a sudden cold, which resulted in a very severe cough, with violent pains in the side and chest. From that time 1 began to waste away, notwithstanding 1 was under the treatment of skilful physicians. They prescribed forme in vain. 1 became so much re duced that my friends frankly told me that 1 must die, and that I was liable to do -o at any* hour. At this crisis I heard of Wistar’s Balsam of Wild Cherry, byway of a neighbor, whose life had been saved by it, and immediately sent for a bottle The effect produced was indeed wonderful My physician, one of the most respectable in Boston, who had previously told me that acme was hope less, came in, and I informed him what 1 had ta ken, and told him the good effects 1 had expeii enced. He examine 1 the Balsam, and told me to continue the use of it ; since which time 1 have continued to improve daily : and the same physi cian who had given me up entirely, told me a few days since, that J might yet live many years 1 feel that I am now recovered, and gaining strength everyday. MARY’ ROWE. We can cheerfully testify to the truth of the above statement, Mrs. Rowe having been an in mate of our family for some months past. WILLIAM BENNETT, MARTHA BENNETT. THE EDINGBURGH REVIEW, THE NORTH BRUTISH REVIEW, THE WESTMINSTER REVIEW, and BLACKWOODS EDINBURGH MAGAZINE fYAHE wide spread fame of these splendid Pe- j I nodical* renders it needless to say much in their praise. A-< literary organs, they stand far in advance of any works ol a similar stamp now published, while the political complexion ol each is marked by a dignity, candor, and forbearance, not often found in works of a p »rty character. They embrace the views ot the three great par ties in England—Tory ,Whig and Radical —•Black- wood’’ and the ”1.0111101) Quarterly” are Tory ; the “Edinburgh Review” Whig, and the “West minster Review” Radical. The “North British Review” is more of a religious character, having been originally edited by Dr. Chalmers, and now. since his death, being conducted by his son in law Dr. Hanna, associated with Sir David Brewster Its literary character is of the highest order. The “Westminster,” though reprinted under that title only, is published in England under the title of the “Foreign Quarterly and Westminster.” it being in fact a union of the two Reviews formerly publish ed and reprinted under separate titles. It has, therefore, the advantage by this combination, of uniting in one work the best features of both as heretofore issued. The above Periodicals are re-printed in New Y ork, immediately on their arrival by the British steamers, in a beautiful clear type, on fine white paper, and are faithful copies ot the originals, Blackwood’s Magazine being an exact sac-simile of the Edinburg edition. EARLY COPIES. Our late arrangement with the British publish ers ot Blackwood s Magazine, secures to us early sheets of that work, by which we are enabled to place the entire number in the hands of subscri bers before any portion of it can be reprinted in : any of the American Journals. For this and other advantages secured to our subscribers, we pay so large a consideration, that we may be compelled to raise the price of the Magazine. Have you a cough, cold, or the consumption7 It you have, try Dr Hastings, Compound Syrup of Naphtha. 'This medicine is the discove ry of the celebrated Dr. Hastings, Senior Physi cian to the Blenheim Free Dispensary of London. Dr Hastings had his early attention drawn to the consideration of the causes of, and tlie cure for consumption, and after numerous experiments, and long years ot patient and laborious study, discov ered that Wood Naphtha ounded with other vegetable substances, was a certain and speedy cure for consumption, and all diseases ol the lungs. 'The Naphtha being of a very volatile nature, im mediately rises to the lungs, the seat of the dis ease, ami attacking it in its stronghold, destroy s all tubercles that have formed upon the lungs, and prevents the formation ol others. For coughs and colds it is an invaluable remedy, curing the most severe in an incredible short -pace of time A single bottle will prove the virtue of this remedy. In fact, a single dose will effect an almost instanta neous relief. Haatingu* Compound Syrup of Naphtha is now being 11 ed in nearly all our hospitals, and is also coming into rapid u-e among all our best physicians, lor coughs, colds, and ali diseases ot the lungs. It has been recommended in the worst state of consumption by the celebrated physician, Dr. Mott, of New York ; and Dr. Arnold, of Sa vannah, Geo., writing to the agent at New York, under date of Jan. 30th, 1848, says: —•“ I received the hall dozen Hastings’ Naphtha Syrup, ordered from you, and am convinced that Naphtha is the principal ingredient. Enclosed is twenty-five dol lars, ior which you will send me two dozen and a halt bottles more. 1 hare two patients in the Ma rine Hospital, whom I think w ill be benetittod b\ it.” Dr. Lenoir, of Lenoir’s Landing, Tenn., writes as follows— *‘ I procured some of Dr. Hastings' Naphtha Syrup from Philadelphia, and enclosed send you tea dollars for one dozen moie bottles. 1 consider it a very valuable medicine lor all dis eases ol the lungs.” Savannah, Feb. 9th, 1848.
