CHRISTOPH WILHELM HEFEI,AND. IS ESOMBH CHRISTOPHER M. HOOFLAND. Utae of the most renowned physicians, one ol tUa greatest benefactors of modern times, was born •a. From 1793 to 1801, he officiated as P t -ssor at the University of Jena In 1801, he . q uinted Private Physician to the King of f : Member of the Academy of Science, and u.-'n .he establishment of the near College at Berlin, Processor and Court Physician by the Ministry of the Interior. His character istic profoundness aud deep penetration enabled him to combine the theoretical and practical; to unite old and new systems; produce in common the practical and useful, and thus draw therefrom the results and necessary applicable means. It was Dr. H. principally, who exposed and destroyed the 1 Brawn’s System/ which, notwith standing the brilliant exterior, could not conceal its many imperfections, brought to light by' Hoof land’s noble impartiality, sound truths, and deep penetration. Iht J. A. According to your directions a part was distributer’ in Vera Cruz, the other I kept for the use of my teamen and others on board, believing I should hove use tor it, as I had on board fre quent;, from one to three hundred persons, and that tna ly on leaving Mexico would be on the sick lu t. Such was the fact, Dystentery and Diar rhoea extensively prevailed. 1 used the Cordial free!" and not in a single instance do I recollect of it? having failed to completely cure. My own crew would often be attacked with Diarrhoea, Distillery, etc., peculiar to nearly all alter getting on shore and eating fruit and vegetables—in all such cases the Cordial failed in none to cure speedily. When in New Orleans a friend iniormed me of a I hiiadelphia gentleman, (S.
