Chronicle & feutinel. WKDNKBDAY MOKNLM.. OCTOBER 14. That Pokm.—Wo pro raised our readers Green Goggles’ poem on Moving Day this morning. Here it is, and no extra charge for it either: The Troubles of the l,t of October, or Moving Day. BY GREEN GOGGLES. Goodness gracious! now I ask you, Did ever anything so task you, As t his confounded ixrro to housekeepers? I mean a “Moving Day.” What with dust, and dirt, and airing And the draymen's nosy swearing, ’Poutny word! I almost wish that from this life I’d moved away ! I teds and blankets—sheets and spreads— Enough to cover forty heads — All piled up in the yard. Don’t call me “snarler;” But think. Is it not enough To drive one crazy ? Here’s my muff— Been jammed into the stove—was in the parlor! And my bran new bureau scratched ! Curtains torn, and can’t he matched ! And my music, too~tho latest operatic airs— Which were given me by Matt— <ioodness gracious! What was that ? Bays the nigger, “ Dar’s de Peanny fell down stairs!” The drayman says he ain’t to blame, (If he was, its all'the same;, And consoles me. It’s a wonder I hadn’t fainted; For when J said he should he sued, Hays “Missus, you kin git it glued ! And den send it tej Mr. Piatt and git it jtainleil !” And here’s my harp—they’ve cut the strings, “To use iir tyin’ up do tings;” The last picture that I painted—cut and slashed— And, as they dropped a box of wine, I heard below a doleful whine, And learned “’twas do poodle dog wat’s j ist got mashed /” Men may say wliat’er they please Alsjut us women living at ease, And arguments bring, their worst asser tions proving, But J’ll leave it to their wives, 1 fever in their lives, They worked as hard as we did when “moving.” Phillips’ Provision Exchange.
