How She Got Square With Him.
The young lady was not pretty, but she was
Intelligent. Wlteu she entered the railroad
car she found alf the seats occupied except
one, and that contained a grip-sack, beside
which Its owner, a crusly-looklng Individual,
was seated.
“Is this seat engaged, please?" the young
lady asked in silvery tones, pointing to the
seat occupied by the grip-sack.
“It is, ’ the man responded gruffly.
The lady walked the length of the car, and,
finding no scat, returned aud said to the
man:
“May I occupy this seat until its owner re
turns to claim It ? ’
He removed the grip without speaking,
placed It between his feet, and she sat down.
The train went on, but no one appeared to
claim the seat. When' the train stopped at
a Station half an hour later, the man pre
pared to get out.
“Do you get off here?" the lady Inquired
sweetly.
“I do," he answered; why?"
“I would advise you to keep on,” she said;
“for hog cholera is prevailing in this sec
tion." „ , .
He went out of the car like a flash, amidst
the laughter of those in the vicinity who had
observed the Incident.

his luck, I heard just before I left New York
that the will of a Democrat, who died some
years ago leaving ;#250,000 to t lie first Demo

been discovered, and that lie will fall in tor

Later in the interview mention was made
of the < levelands of San Francisco Hhe vis

MOTHERS’
FRIEHDi
This i" valuable prepa
ration is truly a triumph
of scientific skill, and no
more inestimable benefit
was ever bestowed on the
mothers of the world.
It not only short
ens tlie time of labor and
lessens the intensity of
pain, but, better than all,
it greatly diminishes the
dangbr to life of both
mother and child, and
leaves the mother in a
condition highly favor
able to speedy recovery,
and far less liable to
flooding, convulsions and
other alarming symptoms
incident to lingering and
painful labor. Its truly
wonderful efficacy in
this respect entitles the
Mothers’ Friend to be
ranked as one of the life
saving appliances given
to the world by the dis
coveries of modern sci
ence.
From the nature of the
case it will of course b<
understood that we cannot
publish certificates con
cerning the Remedy with

have hundreds of such
testimonials on file, and
no mother who has once
