COMMISSIONER’S APPEAL
To the Voter* of Atkincon
County.
Our county need* a courthouse
and jail, and improved loads. VV>
need 11 1 esc conveniences as muel
now as we will live or ten years
hence, and we can build as chcapl;
now : s liv • or ten years hence
Jbiilce s .sane us that inaleiiaa
and labor are as cliea|> i ow as tin y
willlefoi tli ‘next five or ten year .
Then why wait for conditions ti
channel The cost of building cai
just as easily advance as lo conn
down. We deem it to the best in
terests of the county to build now
and arc convinced that it is to oui
inti rest to vote for bones.
If we vote bonds we will pay foi
these public conveniences through
a term of thirty years, the interest
and one thirtieth of the principal
each year. This way will enable the
jeiple to have these permanent
improvements at the least possible
cosl. We, then, ask each and ev
cry voter to be sure and vote for
bonds and to use all the influence
he has to make the bond issue a
success, if bonds are successful we
arc able to build, paying only a
small payment each year instead of
paying for it in one year by a tax
levy for $75,000.00 for building
pun o es
The law forbids the taxing of the
people to create a building fund,
this taxing to be continued through
a term of years. Therefore, if we
arc to build by taxation we arc com
pelled to raise all the money in one
year, and wo fear to do this would
place a very heavy burden on the
people; when we vote bonds, wo arc
not hurt, and at the rate of in
crease in the valuation of the prop
erty of our county, the increased
valuation will take care of these
bonds. Therefore, oui tax rate
will not necessarily be increased
but little, if any.
We realize the need of good roads
and promise, if we vote bonds, to
Improve our public roads so that wo
can have a fairly good system of
roads. These roads to be built so
that they will, .as nearlyas is jh**
siblo, accommodate every person
in the county, (iood roads area
crying necessity of the county, and
we are unable to secure 1 hem other
than by bonds. Of course we must
have good roads, and that means
we nius' vote bonds.
Let’s vote bonds to build a court
house and jail and for good roads,
for we need both. We must haVe
both. Progress demands that we
do these things and take our place
beside our neighbor counties in
their march onward and upward.
It is to the county’s interest, and
to every taxpayer’s interest to
vote bonds on February 21st, 1920.
We, therefore, urge every voter in
terested in lhc|welfarc of his coun
ty to vote for bonds.
Hes|>ectfully Submitted,
Jeff Kirkland, Chairman,
J. M. Roberts,
Dave Weathers, Commission
ers of Roads and Revenues.
