A PRETTY PICKLE.
The Tribune means to misrepre
sent, no one, and should the editor
do so lie is ready to make the nec
essary amende honorable. Just
alter the Atlanta convention W. .1.
Vcreen, a wealthy gentleman of
Moultrie, wots referred to in these
columns as a slacker and German
sympathiser, lie had permitted
Tom Hardwick to name him for
the Georgia member of National
Democratic Executive Committee
and he, thereby, became a legiti
mate subject of criticism. Amu
tual friend from Moultrie told the
editor his criticism was unjust as
to W. J. Vereeu but true as to his
father, W. C, Vereeu. Another
mutual frieud states that the crit
icism is unjust as to W. ('. Vcreen
but true as to the son, W. J. Ve
reeu. This is a pretty pickle.
These mutual friends admit, how
over, that both of these men are
wealthy and that the father, W.O.
Vereeu, contributed nothing to the
success of the war; the son, VV. .1.
Vereeu, bought some bonds after
strong persuasion from a policy
standpoint; that both are support
ers of the two Toms.
The Tribune is not responsible
for the records these men have
made for themselves, but regrets
they wore so shortsighted, and
that record will follow them to the
third and fourth generation.

Capital and labor could and
would adjust their differences and
find mutual ground upon which to
stand if left to themselves. Dema
gogy on both sides are preventing
this consummation for their own
aggrandizement. It is parallel
with the Negro question at the
close of the Civil war. Carpet
baggers and scalawags destroyed
the confidence between the whites
and blacks and its effect exists to
this day. No proposition for a
mutual understanding is permit
ted to bear fruit.
