Jacksonville is alrigih.t. II is a city
of pluck ami energy.
Honestly now <lo you believe wo
will ever have a fair day again?
Mr. Cleveland is right in not talking
because it looks like he is just about
to get a “bite.”
If wishes wore horses beggars
would ride it true but how would
they get oats tor the horses?
We can't see how they can call
Philadelphia a city of brotherly love
especially right about election time.
Brunt-wick will lie well represented
at the great Confederate reunion. We
wish every old soldier in Glynn county
could go.
The resorts expect to do a big bus

count for anything their expectations
will he realized.

John \V. Gates sailed some days ago
for Kurope. He will soon have a cor

people aro not very careful.
Bryan and Mel.aurin, although a
little at variance on the money ques

old song “Gown on the Farm.
The successful lawyer or poll!lean

that you must not tie successful.
Booker Washington has Hie sense

Rockefeller is about to give another

There is a groat difference in the

THE SUNDAY NEWS.
The Sunday News will contain a
number of interesting features and
those who do not take the paper
should leave their order at the bus
iness office today.
It will contain all flic local news.
Borne special stories.
Interesting columns for the Jady
folks and other features too numer
ous to mention.
Advertisers should remember that
the Suuday News Is the bo t adver
tising medium In this section.
An ad in the Sunday News means
good business all next week, Get on
the ground floor by engaging your
space early today,
ASK YOURSELF.
In condemning iho faults arid sins
of others why don't you ask yourself?
Have 1 ever boon guilty of such
things? Would I be guilly of such a
thing if placed in a like position?
This is a golden rule which if fol
lowed would bring out sunshine to
the suffering and the unfortunate and
would make the veil of charily a veil
of reality. “1 am sorry for that per
son because, under the circumislati
ccs I would have done the same
thing.” ilovv many people have the
honesty to say lliis?
flow many people knowing that hti
man nature is weak are aware of (he
fact that they are members of the
human family?
Do not criticise hut console, do
not condemn because it U* very prob
able that you would have done the
very same tilling.
Think of yourself in a like position
a:id you will say less and condemn a
great deal LESS.
THE QUICKEST DEATH.
Vou probably read and roinembtv
(lie little editorial paragraph in Hie
Nows yesterday which told of the. lit
tle girl who a Led the old colored
man the easiest and quickest, way to
deat h.
He said: “For me ise just got to
insult a white lady.”
May it always be this way.
May the knoweledge that they will
always pay for It by their lives be
uppermost in their minds and this is
more protection than all the guns
in the army of rh* United States.
Wo have never had, anything of
the kind that the old uncle describes
as Ihe ea.-iest death hole but if the
j occasion demanded it we would have
it.
I.et those Who would protect our
women and the others, we mean those
who would be candidates for the rope,
both understand that the old negro
was right; that what he told the
lit I It* girl about the quickest death is
t rue.
Neither must forget it
Money can make the most illiterate
man the smartest in his section. It
might not moan that he is really
smart hut the people who try to bor
row money from him toll him so
and after awhile he gets to believing
it himself. I v
Wo cannot get that old saving ab
out the longest way sometimes being
the shortest through our heads to .save
our life hut we think the man who
originated it must have been thinking
of a gill’s heart. The nearest way
to reach this important part of her
anatomy is certainly down her
throat especially when it is ice cream
season.
In Newark the other day a large
number of the smart set sold their
beautiful homes because a negro got
some property in the neighborhood.
Theso northern people wik-oai talking
of the race question in the south re
mind us of the saying of the old
preacher, who when caught stealing
chickens by members of his church
said; “don’t do as 1 do. but do as 1
say do.”
Thursday the New- came out with

papers of yesterday you will find that
the loss is officially stall'd at $150,000
