November 1 marks the beginning of
the real hunting season in this sec
tion of the state, for on that day tti
open season commences for the shoo’
i lg of quail, wild turkey and pheas
ants. and continues until March, when
the closed season begins.
Quail or partridges are the real
game birds of this section of the
country, and the average hunter who
lanes a day’s recreation with gun an i
dog in the woods does not feel tha:
(he hunting season has really openeo
until he is allowed by law to liush a
covey and can hear the music—sweet

of the whirring of the brown-feather-
Ii and tribe. Quick work permits him
, to empty both barrels, and then the
covey is followed up or another one
i is flushed.
Hunters were disappointed in their
dove shooting during the current open
season—which tor this bird, mar.sir
hens and snipe, extends from July 15
to March 15 —the number*of them ne
ing much less than in former years,
although" tne law has limited the bag
of one day to forty doves.
