STEAMER CAHHIES
49,000 GOOSSTIES
the wildcroft clears with
A BIG CARGO OF TIES
FOR PANAMA CANAL.
The steamer Wildcroft, which ar
rived in port only a few days ago.
cleared yesterday with one of the lar
gest cargoes of erosties ever shipped
from this or any other port.
The steamer will probably sail today
or tomorrow, carrying the ties to ‘be
used in the construction of the Pan
ama railroad. The cargo consists ot
exactly 45,000 ties. Anew record has
also probably been established in the
rapid loading of the steamer, as she
ilas been in port for only several days.
The ties are shipped by Baxter &
Company, which firm was recently
awarded a contract bv the govern
ment for 100,000 ties. It is expected
that another steamer will arrive in a
a short time for the second cargo.
His Last Rounds.

up that tedious work. At present
he is after the stragglers who have
not paid. As soon a he completes

on the police force.
