ftf£ SRUKSWfCK DALLY NEWS FRIDAY,
HAGKMEN HAVE
A HOVEL SCHEME
THEY HAVE TELEPHONE PUT ON
A POLE WHERE ORDERS CAN
BE TELEPONED.
A number of ihe hackmen of the
city have devised quite a novel
scheme which will be put into effect
today, and the result of which will
probably be profitable to the hackmen
and afford accommodations for the
people of the city generally.
As is well known all hacks in the
city now gather at the intersection
of Newcastle and Gloucester streets
when they are not busy, and any per
son desiring a carriage at their res
idences has fallen into the custom of
telephoning one of the drug stores on
the corner of the streets.
It seems that certain hackmen claim j
that, the drug stores always give the
orders to some special hackman, and,
in order that they can receive their
share of the patronage, several of
them have had a booth erected on a
pole just south of Bruce’s drug store j
and hereafter one hackman will al
ways be on hand to answer calls. The
number of the 'phone will be given
later, and the hackmen say that they ]
will no longer give the drug stores i
so much trouble and they promise to
respond promptly to all call:;.

two days.
A Small Washout.
Trains over the A., B. and A. are
again using the cut-off down Q

few days.
Small Boats Scare.
There was not a single row boat
at the city dock yesterday—the first
time such a thing has happened in
many years. The fact of the matter
is that the marsh hen hunters took
