Any suggestions that you have to offer will be gladly received and acted on by those at the meeting. Ladies are cordially invited. Freewill Baptist Church Nearing Completion. At a n^eting held on Wednesday, the board of education approved Super intendent Auld’s grading of the papers ; made at the examination on June 13th and 14th, which entities the following named applicants to license to teach in the common schools: W. V. Haney, Misses Me L. Knight, Willie Martin, Eudelle Morris, Cora A. Coleman, Mattye Rhodes, Nettie Sikes and Lil lie Perdue, J. W. Purvis and Roma Thomas. License to these parties will be issued at once. Os this number there were four who made first grade, five who made second grade and one who made third giade. In addition to the above, there were four colored applicants who made licen ses: Alice Johhson, S. B. C'ark, Susanna W. Grant and Georgia White head. Among these there is one first grade, one second grade and two third grade licenses. The conduct of the applicants during the session is reported by Superinten dent Auld as being exceptionally good, and that they deserve all they got, besides a great deal of credit and praise. The limit of the agesof the teachers was fixed by the board for this county at 18 years and up for females and 20 years and up for males. Os course the ages of the females will not get very much over eighteen. If the good looks of these applicants signifies anything, Wheeler county will have a set of very fine teachers. Right here we would say that we are authorized to state that the Wheeler unty teachers will be paid, all due them, in a few days; the board having concluded an arrangement to that effect. We have heard of no county in the state that is in better shape than Wheeler, when it comes to paying their teachers. They are paid promptly and therefore the board is abletosecure the best teachers. Superintendent Auld, together with his efficient board, are wide awake to the school situation and are laying the foundation for the finest schools in the state. If any of the applicants desire to look over their papers and the grading of same, they can do so by calling at Superintendent Auld’s office. Still They Come, Dr. A. H. Weathers, a physician of Hawkinsville, was in town this week. Dr. Weathers was over prospecting with a view of locating-with us. He is very favorably impressed with the sur roundings, so much so that he has made arrangements to locate here. It will be thirty days before he can arrange to move over, but in that time he expects I to be here and ready for business. It j is his intention to buy a lot and build | as soon as practicable, but will board ‘ until this can be done. Dr. Weathers 1 is a young man of pleasing address and will no doubt meet with success in his new fieid. Notice to Teachers I will be in my office in Alamo on Friday and Saturday of each week, where teachers may confer with me in person on any matters of interest to the cause of education. All correspon dence shall be addressed to me at Erick J. R. AULD, County Superintendent of Schools MARHN-CROSBY The friends of Miss Iris Martin and Mr. Grover C. Crosby were surprised on last Saturday morning to learn that they had been married the previous afternoon at Glenwood. '■Parental ob jections on the part of the bride’s pa rents, owing to the age of the bride, made it necessary to have the ceremony performed elsewhere. They secured a team and quietly drove over to Glen wood and they were married sitting in the buggy, and quietly drove back to town and many of their friends knew nothing of their marriage until next morning. The marriage license had been procured from Mcßae. The bride had just returned from Eastman, where she went as a delegate to the Epworth League convention, and the flight to Glenwood planned. Mrs. Crosby is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Martin of this place and is one of the most at tractive young ladies in Wheeler county and is very popular. Mr. Crosby is a young man of sterling worth and has many friends in this and other counties. He holds a position with the Wheeler County Shoe Store. The Eagle extends congratulations to this popular young couple and wishes for them much hap piness through life.
