A / x Wheeler County Eagle VOLUHfi i School Trustees Hold Meeting. Schools of County Well Represenfecb/Big Day With School Enthusiasts Address by R .F, Duckworth The trustees of the various public schools of the county met here Wed nesday, in response to a call from Sup erintendent Auld, the prime object being to arouse more interest in edu cation in Wheeler county. Superinten dent Auld conceived this idea of bring ing the trustees of the county together and having a heart to heart discussion of the best methods of obtaining the best results from the rural schools. The idea proved beyond doubt, a good one, and it resulted in one of the most enthusiastic educational gatherings ever held in this section. The meeting was held in the hall ov er the bank, and every avalable seat was taken by trustees of the va rious schools of the county and others who came in to hear what was to be said. Nineteen schools ont of twenty one schoels were represented, leaving out Alamo, which was represented. Superintendent Auld prosided over the meeting and opened with a very appropriate talk. He was followed by Judge L. M. D. Nobles, trustee of the Union school, who made an exception ally instructive talk. Hon. R. F. Duckworth, who is touring this section in the interest of the Farmers Union, came last, but by no means least. Mr. Duckworth is an interesting talker and on this occasion he seemed to excel all former efforts. He is very much in terested in education and knows how to tell what he knows. His advice was timely and will be a lasting benefit to them in bringing about better condit ions in the rural schools. He was im pressed with this novel meeting, as he grasped the object and realized the advantages that it would afford the educational interests of the county and was frank to admit that he would ad vocate its practice in his home county, Miller, where, he said, they were asleep along this line. Hon. M. L. Brittian, state school superintendent, was expected to be pres ent, but owing to the fact that import-1 ant legislation, bearing on public schools, he thought it best to remain in Atlanta and make us a visit later on. Superintendent Auld concluded the' program with very appropriate re mark* and explained at length some questions propounded by some of the trustees in regard to some problems that arise in the management of schools i Stop The Hog Cholera! The doors were «losed until nine o’clock, and when they were opened, the eager buyers rushed in, and throughout, the day the army of salespeople were kept on the run. Farmers from miles away came and bought heavily of the many bargains offered in this sale. This sale had been advertised thoroughly, and the amount of cash taken in on opening day attested the value of advertising and, when the house lives up to what they advertise. The sale will continue for fifteen days, Closing on Saturday Aug ust the 16th, and a special invitation is extended to those who have been pre vented from attending, as well as those who have already been.
