PUBLIC SCHOOL
SYSTEM FOR ALAMO
Elsewhere in this issue willbe found
a notice of the election for the ratifi
cation of the Act creating a public
school system for the Town of Alamo
on September 24th, 1913. At this elec
tion there will be elected four school
trustees, who will serve until the next
general election for Mayor and Council
of Alamo, in December of this year.
Tfie Biid public school system will em
brace the new territory of tbe town of
Alamo, which is 3-4 of a mile from the
center of the town. The Mayor of
Alamo will be ex-officio chairman of the
board of school trustees and the board
is emoowered to elect from their numb
er a secretary, who will receive such
compensation as the board deems wise.
Copies of the bill can be found in the
two banks, drug stores and ordinury’s
office. This has been done so as to ac
quaint each voter with what he is doing
when he goes to cast his vote.
The public school system is a great
step forward for the town of Alamo
and for the surrounding country. It
is the purpose of the town to build a
modern school building, to employ a
landscape gardner to beautify the
grounds around the building, and make
the old town of Alamo bloom as a rose
in the month of June. Notning can be
done that will help the town and coun
try more than a school system second
to none in South Georgia.
Let the town of Alamo wake up from
its lethargy, put on new life, clean up
the streets and other undesirable places
and unfurl her banners to the educa
tional breezes of righteous purposes and
high intent and let every man, woman
and child join in the great movement
to properly rear, train and educate the
youth of this country.
