1160 bales of cotton have been
marketed to date in Alamo this season.
Buyers are paying 13 3-4. This report

Messrs. Jim Parker and Arlie
Elkins were callers at Vidalia
Sunday afternoon.
Mr. H, L. Sears has sold his saw
mill outfit to Mr. E. C. Cardell,
who will operate it.
Mr, Dozier Powell went to Vi
dalia Saturday afternoon. It is
said he stopped at Mt. Vernon
on his way back.
Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Hartley
spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs.
L. P. Smith at Helena.
Mr. Mack Auld, son of Prof.
Auld of Erick, is now an attache
of the Wheeler County Bank.
William Bright visited friends
at Brewton-Parker Institute at
Mount Vernon Sunday afternoon
Miss Urma and Mattilee Lewis
of Vidalia, were visitors at the
home of Mrs. J. T Bright Satur
day last.
Miss Delia Clements, who has
been spending several days with
Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Coleman,
near town, spent a few days with
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Calder, on
her return to Towns.

several days’ visit to Mr. and Mrs.
Chas. W. Lancaster, has returned
to her home in Hawkinsville.
Mrs. W. E. Meeks and children
returned Monday, fmr Towns,
where they have on spending

Sovereign McMichael was here
Wednesday and was present at
the meeting of the Woodmen
camp. He assisted in some de
gree work and gave some val
uable hints on Woodcraft.
Mr. J- S. Sims, our veteran
truck grower, is expecting to at
tend the family reunion of Mr.
A. A. Benton, one of Wheeler
county’s oldest and most respect
ed citizens, next Saturday. Mr.
Sims will give our readers a
sketeh of the occasion in our next
issue. Mr. Benton is 83 years
o’d, and gets around remarkably
well.

Tax Collector Martin has re
ceived instructions from the
Comptroller General to include
the $3 school tax levy when he
makes up his tax books. There
has been some doubt as to where
this tax could be legally collected,
but the latest instructions to the
collector are to collect jt
Mrs, S. A. Lee has been quite ill for
the past few daya.
Col. E. P. Dell is spending a few
days at Indian Springs.
Superior court is in session in Mount
Vernon this week,
Mr. J. A. Clegg of Scotland, was a
visitor to Alamo yesterday.
Cols. C. P. Thompson and J. P.
Tomlinson are attending superior couit
at Mt. Vernon this week.
Mrs. Rogers and little granddaughter
of Helena, are spending a fewdajs
with M£. and Mrs. C. C. Hartley.
Sheriff Williams of Mcßae, accom
panied Mr. J. H. Stroud over to Alamo
yesterday and bond to the amount of
six thousand dollars was secured for
Mr. Stroud’s release.
Everybody is talking about the con
vention of horse swappers in Alamo on
Saturday, the eleventh day of this
month.
Master Dewey Sears came home
this week from Mt. Vernon, where he
is attending the Brewton-Parker Insti
tute, and spent a few days
Mr. H. H. Grimes ot Helena, was in
Alamo Wednesday. He had just re
turned from a trip to Alston, where
he visited his brother, Mr. W. B.
Grimes.

Chief Dobson of Alma, is shaking
hands with old friends in Alamoihis

The Wheeler County Bank moved
[into their new building yesterday. The
interior of the building is not complet
| ed, but the bank is located in the rear
of the building until the front can be
completed, which will only take a few
days more.

Prof. Featherstone of Macon, is here
this week and will remain with us un
til after next Monday night, if not
longer. He has applied for the princi
palship of the Alamo High Schoo), but
the trustees wHI not be able to give
him an official answer until after the
meeting of the town council on next
Monday night, at which time they will
consolidate the votes of the election of
the 24th inst., and declare the result,
as provided in the bill creating the
school system, should be done. Prof.
Featherstone gave an interesting talk
at the church Tuesday evening.

Paul Coleman of Scotland, is spend
ing sometime with his grandparents,

Mr. Avant Si stains
Painful Accident.
On last Monday' morning while load
ing some baled cotton from his gin on a
freight car at Avant's crossing, near
Erick, Mr. L. E. Avant had a bale of
cotton to fallen him from the wagon,
breaking two ribs. The fact that he
was not more seriously hurt was pro
vidential. Dr. Nelson was called and
made an* examination of his injuries
ind does not think he is any mors se
riously hurt than above stated.
Mr. Avant runs a large ginnery at
the crossing and has handled a 10l of
cotton. Buyers go over from here to
buv cotton, and Mr. Tom Williams is
stationed at that point for tho season
and buys cotton. It is with a wagon
the cotton is transferred from the
ginnery to the car and in this case one
bale was not securtlv fastened to the
wagon and it fell over on Mr. Avant.
