Two Classes
*
The world hes always been divided into two classes—those
who hove saved —those who have spent. The thrifty and the
extravagant.
It is those who have built the house, the mill, the railroads,
the ships, the schools and churches and all other great works which
stand for man’s advancement and happiness. The spenders are
slaves to the savers. It is the law of nature. We want you to be
a saver—to open an account in our Savings Department and be
independent One dollar will start an account. Why not begin
today? Put your money where it will be safe and draw interest
while you sleep. Enroll your name with the thrifty class, with the
savers. Do it today.

Alamo Mfg. Company
Destroyed by Fire.
Saturday night about ten o’clock,the
Alamo Manufacturing Company’s plant
located about seven miles above here,
was destroyed by fire. The origin of
the fire is not known, but is supposed
to have caught from a spark, as the
night watchman had fallen asleep and
the lantern he used was also burned.
Some are enclined to think that the
watchman kicked his lantern over while
asleep, which he had lighted near him,
and it caught to the shavings. He
only had time to save himself and the
lamp had burned when he awoke, which
gives some impetus to the theory.
The mill had recenty been moved to
the present location, and had just be
gun operation. They manufacture
shingles exclusively and the daily ca
pacity is about sixty thousand. This
was one of the largest manufacturing
plants of its kind in this section.
The plant will be replaced and in
operation in a few weeks. It is thought
that they have enough timber on this
location to last them seven or eight I
years.
Autumn and Harvest Time are
Near, What Will the Harvest
of Your Life Be ?
\
When early sunsets glow in the ruddy gold, soften to rose, and pale to ash"
es-then the corn and cotton fields yield their harvest and the farmer counts
the returns of his long season’s work.
Life’s cycle is the only cycle of seasons magnified. There comes a harvest
time in every life when there is a reckoning of results from years of effort.
Will your harvest be sufficient to cheer and sustain you in old age? That
depends on whether you foster your earning and resources properly now. Cul
tivate your habits of thrift and saving. Start a bank account early and so in
sure a bumper crop that will make your later years the happiest of all.
There is a feeling of security when your life’s earnings are deposited with
a good bank like the

Birthday Celebration
of Mr. B. Benton.
Mr. Editor and readers of the Wheeler
County Eagle: I visited the home of
Old Brother B. Benton on last. Satur
day. His 82nd birth day found him and
his good wife enjoying fine health, Dr
their advanced age.
This noble old couple were married
November 10th, 1854, and to this union
have been born twelve children, live
sons and seven daughters. Their grand
children and great grand children
number 138, most of whom were pres
ent.
At eleven o’clock these children,
representing the three generations
of the family, began to bestow their
many birthday gifts onihe good parents,
consisting of choice apparel of different
kinds and values. Many of them gave
them cash contributions and they real
liberal, which made quite a purse to
the old couple. It was enough to make
an onlooker say God bless those child
ren for their loyalty to their parents.
At eleven-thirty a. m., lemonade of
finest grade was served freely to all
present. Everybody sober and nicely
behaved. A more lovely crowd I have
never seen on any occasion.
At twelve-twenty dinner was announ
ced ready by Mr B. R. Berton The
table was appropriately graced by Dr.
Toole and everybody made welcome,
and my, my the good things we did
enjoy. Bad teeth and poor appetite
was all that could be regretted. I must
say for the good mothers and daught
ers of that community they know just
what to have brought and then they
are onto the job in preparing a first
class birthday dinner.
So I wish to say just here, it is easy
to love childrsn who honor their father
and mother. Some body said: “Do
this that thy days may be long on the
earth.” A Friend,
J. S. SIMS.

MONDAY WaS BUSY
DAY IN MAYOR’S COURT
Monday was a good day for the town
treasury. There were six offenders of
the town ordinances before the Mayor
Monday morning. Some of thrm for
plain drunks and some for disorderly
conduct while drunk. Two cases were
not tried, extra to the above, owing
to the absence of the defendants.
The popularity of the mayor’s court
is growing rapidly, The Mayor is be
coming more familiar with the ‘ boys”
every week, and it does not embarass
him either to turn them loose—after he
has pronounced the ‘‘slo and cost.”
