ALAMO. GEORGIA. FRIDAY, JANUARY, 23, 1914
ALL ABOARD FOR
GREATER ALAMO.
Hurry up! hurry up!!
Now is the time to invest in lots and
to build in the city of Alamo, and stop
that kicking about the court house.
It is like a balking horse, won’t go
back or go on, but stops where he is
and don’t cxre whether school keeps on
or not. Let us see, in Ecel, 33, a time
to build —now is the accepted time to
build a county site—right in the very
center of jhe county, weere the very
best citizens can be found. Isiah 58 12,
where is was once an old place, now it
is a credit to the county and state, and
that where the highest court of our
slate has said that it should be built,
on sure footing, not on Glenwood foun
dation, but as wise men should, on a
center rock—Alamo.
Thank God that he has given men
strength to look out for a location,
where in Heb. 11-10, whose maker and
builder is our God, in whom we have
our being.
Now let us draw close together, and
let us pull together in the strength of
God and with all our might to build a
city, where the people are as a whole;
whole hearted, kind hearted, true
hearted, where we can invi e others to
come and look, search and feel, to
know that this is the place where men
who come here will find land and lots
of it cheap, to build a home on. Where
■ a merchant can find a place to sell
I what he may have, a country round
about that its farmers are of a pro
gressive stamp, a city of truth, her
people are a people of honesty. Now
I let us come as a peopla and let us
, meet each other and be on the level
| with men of the right stamp and
! color, who will induce others to come
; and be one of us.
To build up our county and the town
. of Alamo, we have tbrgi.^hurches and
j school. The bonds for water and
school building will be sold in a few
days. Let us pass up by gone days
and do our part on the square with all.
God grant that the people of Wheeler
county will wake up and realize that
now is the time to build up our county,
build a fort around about ■ city, a
court house and jail, whose grand
chief is our noble sheriff, Mr. J. F.
Wright, and our honorable ordinary in
Ju4ge Kent and our lawyers, Cols.
Thompson, Dell and Tomlinson and our
obliging doctors are Drs. Nelson and
Yawn; our bankers, they are obliging,
and all of our merchants are the same
type. So come and join our ranks.
Last, but not least, Hon. John W.
Clements, who proves that he is a
most noble hearted man. has given the
land for the court house and jail, but
he was not content with that and gave
eleven acres of land as a free gift to
the county. This proves the kind of
people that are in Alamo.
With two banks to boost our county,
and the genial editor of our county
paper, who is ever alert for news to
boost the town and county.

the formal announcement of Mr. J. F. j
Wright, who offers for re-election to’
the office of Sheriff of Wheeler county
subject to the rules and regulations of ,
the coming primary. He is well known
to the people of the county as a fearless I
and faithful officer, and has scores of
friends over the county that will stand
by him in this primary as they did in
the past. 1
When Shall We Expect
Work to Begin on Well?
Spring time is coming with its warm
days, and as yet, work is at a stand
still on the artesian well. The town
has invested some money on the well
proposition, and still a long ways from
haying anything that resembles a well
belching forth a beautiful stream of
healthful water. Our surface wells
are almost dry. The people are jnst
up against a dry proposition, and the
proper thing for those in authority to
do is to have the well started complet
ed or try another. It would serve in
dry weather to a great advantage if at
no other time.
Judge L. M. D. Noblesis also spoken
of as a very probable candidate in the
coming primary for the office of
County Treasurer. Mr. Nobles is
numbered among the county’s best and
most influential citizens, possessing
the qualifications that would make the
county a valuable officer. He is a
member of the Board of Education, and
wai active in the campaign to create
the new county of Wheeler.
Mr. S L. Brett is being spoken of
as a probable candidate for Trx Re
ceiver in the coming primary, by many
of his friends Should Mr. Brett al
low the use of his name in the race for
this office, there is no doubt that he
would make a good race, as he is well
qualified to serve the people of Wheeler
county in this capacity. Mr. Br.,tis
a good man and has many fl lends m
the county who would rally to his sup
port, in the event he should 'enter the
race.
Dr. T. H. Nelson was in Atlanta
several days last week. H e has been
suffering for sometime with symptoms
of appendicit’S, and went to have an
Ex-Ray exminatinn that would
reveal the extent of the trouble. He
was advised that an operation would
be necessary, but he could put it off'
for several months.
Miss Rosa Harvil of Macon, a sister
of Mrs. R, M. Lord of this county,
has accepted a position as saleslady
with Idelson Department Store. Mins
Harvil is an experienced saleslady and
will appreciate a call from the trading
public.
