IN MEMORY
Tribute of love to the precious
memory of our wife and mother,
Mrs. Lindsey Anderson o n
“Mother’s Day.”
Mother was tired and weary,
Weary with toil and with pain;
Put by her glasses and rocker,
She will not need them again.
Into Heaven’s Mansion she’s
entered,
Never to sigh or to weep,
After long years with life’s
struggles,
Mother has fallen asleep.
Near other loved ones we laid
> her,
Low in the church yard to lie,
And though our hearts are
broken,
We can not question “Why.”
She does not rest ’neath the
grasses,
Tho’ o’er her dear grave they
creep,
She has gone into the King
dom,
Mother has fallen asleep.
Rest the tired feet now for
ever,
Dear wrinkled hands are so
still,
Blast of the earth shall no
longer,
Throw o,er our loved one a
chill,
Angles through Heaven will
guide her,
Jesus will still bless and keep.
Not for the world could we
wake her,
Mother has fallen asleep.
Beautiful rest for the weary,
Well deserved rest forthetrue,
When our life’s journey 1 £
ended,
We shall again be with you.
Tiiis helps to quite our weep
ing,
Hark! Angle music so sweet!
He uiveth to His beloved,
Beautiful Beautiful sleep.

FOR a punch that is. easily made
and is ideal for serving on hot
I afternoons, try the following recipe.
Mix two cups canned, unsweetened
Hawaiian pineapple juice, one-half
cup grape juice, one-half cup car
bonated water. Add one slice of
pineapple cut in shreds. When
thoroughly mixed pour over crushed
ice In glasses. Six servings.
When framing valuable etchings,
water colors or prints which will
remain in their frames for some
time. It Is suggested that they be
backed with a sheet of pressed wood
instead of the customary cardboard.
If they are then sealed with gummed
tape, changes in the humidity of tho
room cannot reach the drawing and
they remain clean until taken out
of the frame. It accidentally dropped,
the pressed wood keeps the frame
rigid In most cases and prevents
the glass from breaking. Many
costly works ut art have been cut
or torn by broken glass when the
frame has been dropped ou the
floor.

sors, of course. They're the latest
type of eyebrow tweezer and are

FOR centuries man has battled
against the Insects for suprem
acy. To date the battle is still not
won. Man has called science to
bls aid to develop methods which
enable him to slay his Insect ene- i

lions are born to threaten his ex

> destroying his food supply.
Radio's short-waves, whose im

transmission is familiar to all radio
enthusiasts, are the latest scientific
weapon which gives promise of
bringing nearer man’s victory, at
least on the food-supply front As
I experiments continue the posslbil-

i to develop what would be in effect
j a radio death-wave for marauding
insects, and one that would operate
on a wholesale scale.
At the present stage of develop
ment an adjustable short-wave
transmitter Is connected to two
condenser teat plates. Plants bear
ing the insects which are to be
killed are placed between the two
plates. The radio waves induce
currents in tho Insects’ bodies
which make them hot to the touch
and kill them within ten to thirty
seconds Since the margin be
tween the frequencies which kill
Insects and plants is wide, the
plants are not damaged by the cur

So far the death-wave for Insects
has been used only on a laboratory

Flower Pests and Diseases
AN effective way to defeat certain
flower diseases is, of course, to
plant disease-resistant strains such
as rust-resistant snapdragon and
wilt-resistant aster.
But the only way to combat insect
pests is to spray or dust plants with
insecticides.
An early season pest is leaf beetle,
a chewing insect whose presence is
indicated by holes in the leaves. It
Is found most often on alyssum, zin
nia, marigold and annual phlox.
Leaf beetles can be successfully con
trolled by using stomach poisons in
the form of sprays containing arsen
icals or pyrethrum. <
Snapdragon, aster, petunia and
verbena are the principal victim*
of the cutworm, a chewing insect
which cuts plants off at the ground.
To combat it, place about a spoon
ful of poison bran batt around th*
base of each plant.
Aphis, sucking insects, bother al
most all the popular flowers with
the exception of zinnia They pro
mote wilting and cause erumpling
and discoloration of leaves. A con
tact poison (pyrethrum or nicotine
sulphate base) should be sprayed or
dusted on the plants.
Downy mildew is a disease found
almost anywhere flowers are grown.
It shows up white all over the plant
and discolors to black, killing leaves
and causing stems to rot Zinnia I*
Its particular prey, although pe
tunia, phlox and others also are
affected. >As a remedy, flower* at
sulphur may be dusted on verjs
lightly, and the treatment repeated.
Take a big step toward el ( twins.
tion of all pests generally by burn
ing garden waste and trash, espe
cially any diseased stalks er leaves,
at the close es the season.
