Alamo Scene of B. p I Game
Saturday night in the Alamo
gymnasium the basketball teams
of Brewton Parker and Middle
Georgia College clash in what
should be two exciting games.
The boys from Cochran are re
spected as the best Junior col
lege club in Georgia, and they
have beaten several strong senior
colleges. The Barons outplayed
Soutn Georgia of Douglas last
Saturday night, but lost when
Dunn, star center was ejected
from the game early in the first
quarter, and Maglio in the final
stanza, score was-31-28.
No matter how the game goes
it will not be a true represents^
tion of the Blue Baron’s strength
as Captain Davis Smith, who has
played every minute so far, is
down with flu and will miss his
first game.
The B. P. I. boys promise to
make it interesting.
The girls! game will probably
be the best of the season. It will
decide which team in this sec
tion is the strongest among the
junior colleges. The M. G. C.
sextet has beaten Norman, con
querers of South Georgia, who,
with the exception of two eases
to B. P. I. in 1935, had a record
Os unbroken victot les six years
long. Brewton Parker girls out
played South Georgia in Doug
las recently, but lost 28 to 82.
Critics who saw this game said :
it was one of the best they had i
ever seen.

County
A survey of every road in Wheel

ed by preparation of an accurate
map of the county, will be launch
ed next week by the Division of
Highway Planning of the State
Highway Board, in cooperation
with the United Stotes Bureau
of Public Roads. The survey is
expected to be completed about
February 18.
In addition to roads, the new
map will show all dwellings,
schools, churches, public meet
ing houses, public cemeteries,
stores, postoifices, resorts, tour
ist camps, airports, mills, tur
p mtine stills, factories, cotton
gins, canneries, lakes, mines,
athletic fields, golf courses, coun

all other places that are the or
igins and destinations of high
way traffic and which may be
seen from the county’s roads,
The survey will include not
only the actual measurement of
every rural road and main high
way in Wheeler county, but also
will ascertain the condition of
the surfaces on the main roads
and will record inadequate sight
distances and sharp curves ana
steep grades that might limit
the service of those roads. Ex.
act physical condition at every
railroad-high way grade crossing
also will be determined.
O. T. Ray, state director of the
Division of Highway Planning,
in announcing the start of the
Wheeler county survey, called
attention to tags which will be
tacked up at road intersections
by the survey party.
“These tags give information
necessary in making the sur
vey,” said Mr. Ray yesterday
the headquarters office in Allan-,
ta, “and the public is urged nm
to molest them. If Wheeler
county school teach, rs would ask
the.r pupils not to mar or re
move the tags it would be oi
great assistance to us in our
work.”

“"’ACCIDENT
1 EMPLOYES of the Georgia Power Company believe whole
heartedly in highway safety, and they are giving real co
operation to the statewide effort of public officials, newspapers and
private citizens to reduce automobile accidents. During the past
twenty months, they operated Company cars 15,902,977 miles with
out a single fatal accident. That is the record of Georgia’s biggest
automotive fleet, the familiar red cars and green trucks you have
seen so often, more than 700 of them.
This record, itself, is no accident. It is one result of an active and
aggressive safety campaign the Company has conducted for years.
Not only has it developed habits of carefulness among Georgia
Power Company people but it has also fitted large numbers of them
to be of real service to others when accidents cccur. More than 350
of our 4,500 employes have earned standard Red Cross first aid cer
tificates; over 1,500 others are now voluntarily enrolled in first aid
classes conducted by accredited Red Cross instructors.
On the highways and elsewhere, this Company’s workers arc
enthusiastically helping to reduce the tremendous toll of public acci
dents — not only by their words but by their actions.
