Alamo entertained the visitors
to the annual session of the Dan
niell Baptist Association on Wed
nesday and Thursday of this
week. This was a large gather
ing. We appreciate having the
Association come to our town
and extend a most cordial wel
come to come again at their
pleasure-
Mr. B. H. McLarity, promotion
manager and editor of the ’‘Geor
gia Gracker”, published at Lyons
was a business yisitor in Alamo
Wednesday. He recently consol
idated the Lyons progress with
Tannersßrice printing outfit at
Vidalia and moved this plant to
Lyons, where they have one of
the largest printing plants in this
section.
War clouds continue to hover
and thicken over European soil,
and how long before the United
States will take a more active
part is hard to guess. This situ
ation has the brains of the nation
guessing, but any thig may hap
pen before ve>-y long.
Great Brittain is going strong
against Germany, but how long
this will continue remains to be
seen. Destruction of life and
property continues; this goes for
Germany as well as Great Brit,
tain. Uucle Sam is making every
preparation for any emergency.
England is our great line of de
fense and should she fail to stop
Hitler our fate would remain in
in the balance.
Alamo street crossings are a
necesrity and should be kept up,
all must agree, to accommodate
traffic that is forced to use them.
Many of the crossinge are in
reasonable repair, but we must
admit that some of them are de
plorable and need attention. We
refer to the crossing on Second
avenue, facing residence of J. C.
Patterson. A word of warning
is intended to possibly prevent a
serious accident is the occasion
for this information.
The object of advertising is to
keep eternally at it—that is, keep
your line of business before the
public at all times. If you go
shopping and wish an article—
the chances are you will call for
an advertised brand; the same
with toilet goods and the same
with other goods. Mail order
houses are doing business in this
county everyday as a result of
advertising. Live merchants
could easily take this mail order
business and keep this money at
home—if they would only let the
buying public kow that they
handle these goods and want the
business.
Young Fish Rescued
By Wildlife Ranger
Rescue of standard fish in
Lownds County is being directed
by Wildlife Ranger Earl Lord,
according to the Division of
Wildlife. Thousands of minnows •
and small pan fish have been
taken from drying holes and
placed in live waters by Lord
and a host of junior rangers.
Many of the fish were gambusia
minnows, widely known for its
lust for the malaria mosquito
and also furnishing the finest
bass food available i
