Congress Didn’t Beat
Reoosevelt---They Beat You;
- The new tax bill, so triums
phantly passed over the Presis
dent’s veto will cost eyery
working man and woman in the
country an extra $25 to 50. in ins
come taxes this year. That was
brought abeut by abolition of the
earned income credit.. The tax
rates for the big fellows, hows
ever, were not touched.
The bill alsc takes away from
the war and navy departments
theé power to renegotiate war
concracts in the tool making ins
dustry. This means that the great
financial interests which own
the tool industry are permitted
keep the billions of dollarsin
excessive war profits they have
made on government contracts,
To that extent the congress
graciously legalized the most vis
cious profiteering inour couns
try’s history. The big interests
who profiv to the tuue of billions
by the new tax bill are the
“*greedy interest” to whem
President Roosevelt referied in
| hisg veto message.
Well, who won the sigh:? Con
gress did not win it! R o 3 veit
