About Your
Social Security
Do you have a relative oi
friend receiving treatment in
a mental institution? Charles
Hall, Branch Manager of the
Dublin Social Security Office
states, “Many times a person
receiving treatment for a
mental condition is unable to
file a claim on his own be
half, yet he may be entitled
to benefits.” The Social
Security Administration tries
to contact those who might
possibly be entitled to benefits
in order to protect them from
a loss of benefits.
If you have a friend or
relative you feel might be
eligible for benefits, call,
write, or visit the Dublin
Social Security Office located
at 114 East Johnson Street.
The telephone number is 272-
5347. The personnel of the
Dublin office will be glad to
discuss any questions you
might have regarding Your
social security.
Q. I am receiving social
security checks but have taken
a job. Do I wait until I earn
SI6BO before reporting to
Social Security?
A, No. Report as soon as
you start working at the rate
of pay which would exceed
SI6BO for this year. Os
course, if you should quit
work, report that at once.
In the report to social
security be sure to show the
month you started work and
estimate total earnings for
the whole year from January
1 to December 31. When a
beneficiary waits until he has
earned SI6BO before report
ing, he is already overpaid
and, depending on his earn
ings, he may not be eligible
to receive any checks at all,
and therefore, would be over
paid for all months.
Q. Several people have told
me 1 could get social security
retirement benefits because
I am 60 and a widow. My
husband died in 1936. One
person, however, said I could
not receive benefits on my
own record at age 60, but
that I had to be 62. Who is
right?
A. The one person who said
you could not get monthly
benefits on your own record
at 60 is correct. A widow’s
benefit can be paid at age 60

on her husband’s work record;

died in 1936 (before Social

would not qualify for any be

Q. I will be 62 in October.
1 have only 3 years work.
Someone told me that the 3
years spent in the Army in
World War II would give me
social security credits. Is
that true?
A. Yes. For each month
honorably served in the Army
(or any branch of Service)
from 1940 to 1957, you will
be given social security
