action. Let every man do his duty, and
the country will be saved.
Messrs Editors ; —I am a plain man,
and live in the country. I have been en’
deavoring to ascertian the truth and do
what is right in the pi esent crisis. For
this purpose I read both sides. The oth*

found the following paragraph :
Keep it before the people, that Hon.
Howell Cobb believes that the South
gained every thing and the North lost
everything by the so-called Compro
mise measures, which deprived the Souili
of all her interests in California, Utah
and New Mexico, abolished slavery in the
District of Columbia, and forced Texas
to part with a large portion of her territo
ry for a specified sum, to be converted
into free.soil.
I can safely say that I never saw as
many falsehoods condensed in one sen
tence before.
1. It is untrue that Mr. Cobb believes
the South gained every tiling by the
Compromise.
2. it is untrue that Mr. Cobb believes
tne North lo.st every thing by the
Compromice.
3. It is untrue that the Compromise
deprive the South of all interest iu Cali
fornia.
4. It is untrue that it deprived the
South of all interest in Utah and New
Mexico.
5. It is basely untrue that the Compro
mise abolished slavery in the District ol
Columbia.
6. it is untrue tint the Compromise
forced Texas to part with a portion of
her territory.
7. It is untrue that the Compromise
converted a foot of Texan territory to Free
Soil.

country, ha* proven beyond u doubt, that no medicine
or combination of medicines known, can so surely con

abundant reason to believe, a Remedy has at length been
found which can be relied on to cure the most danger

permit us to publish any proportion of the cures affected
by its use, but we would present the following opinions
