A MAN by the name of J R.
WALDROP, recently left
tliis place for parts unknown, alter staying
here four or five months, leaving the under
signed, together with many other citizens of
the place to suffer for a considerable amount
of Money. He also succeeded in borrowing
a considerable amount of money ftoni sever
al unsuspecting individuals, on short time, iu
order to have money to bear his expenses
from tins place, lie also took from the Sil
versmith’s Shop a fine gold watch, without
leave belonging to Mr. Simons.
Said YY’aldrop came to this place as a Pain
let and for some time, followed his profes
sion apparently very industriously. lie
brought a lady to this place with him, whom
he married in Macon. It is reported that lie
has another wife and two children in Missis
sippi. Toward the lattei end of his stay in
Oglethorpe he jocosely called himself u
Muriel Man in every crowd.
Said VY’aldrop is about 6 feet high, stout
Imilt, high forehead, dark eyes, <fcc., about
20 years of age. His wife, is a small, slep
de'r built, rather sharp featured lady, inclin..
ed to be dark skinned, —carries with her a
small lap dog decorated with ribands.
Said Waldrop was last heard of in Rome,
Ga., and was aiming lor Montgomery Ala.
He sold Mr. Simons’ watch in Atlanta.
Below, we give a lettet written by him to
bis brother iu Mississippi, which will suffi
ciently prove him to be a villain.

Dear Brother :—This is to inform
you that I am not well, but hope this may
find you in good health. I wrote to you
some time since, and given yon a deed to
154 achers of land being- in the Smith
East quarter of S. 12, T. 8 R, 1, West
in Lafayette County, Mississippi, i have
never heard from you nr any of you since
and whether you are all dead, or whether
you have not received the letter, or what
it is I cannot tell. lam certain of one
thing and that is I have done mv duty lo
yon all as to writing and answering vonr
letters. Jam still in this place, doing
best I can for myself. YVe are tare sep
erated from each other, and may never
see each other in this world, you live
in a sickly country ami so do I. We
have just returned from hurrying one of
our bretliering; a -jreat number turned
out lo day to see the last ol Cnpt. Elli,
a number 1 tnan. Mrs. Waldrops health
is good. She sends her love to you all.
She was raised by the Honorable Mrs.
Rains of Macon, Georgia, ns lo boot /,

dream of blood and dead men every
night; I try to be as cheerful as possible,

THE Subscriber offers for sale a valua
ble settlement of Oak and Hickory,
Land, nearest point within one mile of Ogle
thorpe, on both sides of Flint River, (the
residence on said land being within two and
a half miles of Oglethorpe, on the East side
of said River) containing six hundred and fif
ty or seven hundred acres, two bundled of
which are now in cultivation. There is also
